Kathryn has recently returned to Adelaide to teach flute at the Elder Conservatorium of Music. Prior to this, she was the Associate Principal Flautist of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra for over 15 years and was a Teaching Artist at the University of Auckland. She has a wealth of orchestral experience, having also performed with the Adelaide, Melbourne, Queensland, Tasmanian and Netherlands Symphony Orchestras, the Hong Kong and Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestras, the Adelaide Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria.
Kathryn has a strong interest in chamber music and has performed at International Arts Festivals in Melbourne, Auckland, Brisbane, Aberdeen and London. She has toured with the Koru Wind Quintet for Chamber Music NZ and will soon release a CD with the NZ Trio. Kathryn has appeared as a recitalist at the National Flute Association Convention in Washington DC and the Australian Flute Festival. She has sat on juries for the NFA Orchestral Audition Competition (USA), the Australian Young Artist Competition and Leslie Barklamb Scholarship.
Kathryn has a PhD in Music from the University of Adelaide where she received the Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence. She undertook postgraduate studies with Andreas Blau from the Berlin Philharmonic, Leon Berendse from the Netherlands Philharmonic and Harrie Starreveld at the Amsterdam Conservatorium.
