Instructions To The Monitor/Evaluator

The candidate shall be given a self-contained breathing apparatus including PASS device
The candidate shall be given the instructions below before beginning the exercise.

Instructions To The Candidate

The candidate, provided a self-contained breathing apparatus, shall demonstrate daily inspection to show that the apparatus is in a safe condition for immediate use with 100% accuracy.

13 Steps *

1) Checks the unit for cleanliness and obvious damage

2) Checks the cylinder to see that it is full

3) Turns the cylinder valve on completely, verbalizes that the low pressure alarm sounded

4) Compares gauges and related indicators to ensure they read within allowable limits (within 100 psi)

5) Checks hoses and connections

6) Checks facepiece to ensure that it is clean and in good condition and straps are fully extended

7) Checks the harness to ensure that it is in good condition and all straps are fully extended

8) Checks the bypass/purge and mainline valve to ensure they are operational

9) Ensure that PASS device will operate in emergency mode

10) Turns off cylinder valve

11) Bleeds off air by opening bypass/purge valve and listens for low pressure alarm which should sound at 1/4 cylinder capacity

12) Closes bypass/purge valve

Report any deficiencies found.
