RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR PREMIER SOLOIST

Premier Championship  is a NEW solo category for Hura Tahiti . This event is open to all 1st place or Overall winners in any Tahitian Dance Competition and will be performed before the group category on Saturday, June 25, 2022.

There will be one (1) Division with the following age categories:
• Hura Tau Vahine et Tane – ages 13 to 35yrs.

Disclaimer: Dancers will not be able to compete in the Solo Advance category if they are competing in the Premier category.  If a winner is under the age of 18 then he or she will have the opportunity to compete in the Ori Tahiti Nui Solo Competition, not the World Championship due to the rules set forth by OTNWC.

Solo Entry Fee: $65
Each contestant will perform an “Ori Tahiti” freestyle solo.
Once all contestants have performed their “freestyle ‘Ori Tahiti”, they will return to perform a Mehura/Aparima.
The Mehura/Aparima music will be emailed directly to the soloist as soon as the application and payment is received and processed.

1 Tane and 1 Vahine will be chosen to represent their Pupu ‘Ori and Hura Tahiti Competition at the 2022 Ori Tahiti Nui World Championship Competition. This award is sponsored by Tumata Robinson and Manouche Lehartel, Directors of the Ori Tahiti Nui Competition and thus the regulations must be in compliance with OTN Rules and Regulations.

Ori Tahiti Solo Rules and Regulations
House drummers will play random beats. This is a freestyle solo competition. The competitors will perform with no more than three (3) dancers on stage at a time.
Time: (1) minute thirty (30) seconds to two (2) minutes.
Competitors will be judged based on their knowledge of basic steps, variety of technique, rhythm and timing, artistic expression, costume and the judges’ overall impression.

Hura Tau Vahine Solo Costumes
All Vahine’s are allowed to wear fresh leaves skirt, more skirt (ankle length) or pareu in solid or printed fabric made of cotton, faraoti or rayon. The tape’a titi may be adorned with or made of fresh plants and/or match the head or neck adornments. The pareu is tied on the hip. No belt nor hip adornment allowed. No plastic or silk allowed.

Hura Tau Tane Solo Costumes
All Tane’s are allowed to wear fresh leaves skirt, knee length or ankle length mo’re, tihere, or maro.  No leg and hand adornments allowed. No plastic or silk allowed

Mehura Rules and Regulations
The Directors of Hura Tahiti have chosen a song that all competitors will choreograph and perform to.  The competitors will perform with no more than three (3) dancers on stage at a time. The song and translations will be sent out to the individual when application and payment is received.

Hura Tau Vahine Mehura/Aparima Costumes
Vahine are allowed to wear a long dress or a two piece costume. Fabric/material should be printed or solid material (pareu) or tapa material. Costumes can be made from fresh or dry plants (ornamental foliage and flowers), of shells, feathers, etc. Head ornaments (Crown, tiara, head-piece) or various bunches of flowers, ear to ear or partial band. No plastic or silk allowed.

Hura Tau Tane Aparima Costumes
All Tane are allowed to wear slacks, tihere, or maro. Aparima costume may be made from fresh or dry plants (ornamental foliage and flowers), of shells, feathers etc.
No plastic or silk allowed.
