HBCSD believes that regular and punctual attendance in school is essential to a student’s success. Absence from school is one of the greatest contributing factors to unsatisfactory schoolwork. Pupils are required by law and Education Code 48260 to attend school punctually and regularly.

Excused absences are defined by Education Codes 46010 and 46014.

Parents should report the reason for an absence within two school days. If requested by the school, the parent must provide documentation of an illness from a licensed health care practitioner.   Absences are excused for attendance accounting purposes for the following reasons only. (Education Codes 46010 and 46014) · Illness · Medical Appointment · Quarantine · Death of a Family Member · Court appearance · Exclusion from school up to five days for immunizations · Religious exercises or instruction as outlined in Education Code 40614. Legal reasons for excused absences are limited to those listed above. All other reasons are “unexcused” under the State of California Education Code. *
