The Latino Leadership and College Experience Camp is seeking local college professors, former LLCEC participants, and creative community members who have a passion for teaching, learning, and sharing their expertise, knowledge, and talents with incredible youth from all over the state.
The 2023 LLCEC will take place from Sunday, July 23 through Friday, July 28, 2023 at BCTC Newtown Campus and Transylvania University! During the week of camp (Monday, July 24 through Thursday, July 27), the LLCEC sets out to provide a schedule of amazing and diverse courses, workshops and projects designed to spark interest, ignite a love for learning, inspire critical thinking and action all while facilitating healthy mentorships and providing safe and liberating spaces for self-expression and empowerment. Camp directors and facilitators help provide courses; yet, in order to fill the need, we need passionate volunteers to help us round out the offerings.
How can you help? Read the descriptions below, select the format that best suites your schedule and teaching style, and submit this simple form. Let us know if you need any supplies or compensation for your time. We will confirm you participation by May 1st. We will be holding an optional training workshops for you to get to know the LLCEC support staff, facilitation and social justice project core team on Saturday, June 17 at 10 am at BCTC Newtown Campus in Lexington.
Volunteer needs:
Mock College Style Course Instructors: Help our youth experience what a college class would be like. Instructors will teach mock college style classes on a Monday/Wednesday or a Tuesday/Thursday schedule from 9:30 am to 10:50 am schedule. These courses are meant to challenge a student's thinking through college style lectures infused with dialogue, civil discourse, and interactive group activities.
Let's Move Activity Instructors: LETS MOVE workshops feature exercise classes, games, or some type of health physical movement to take place daily Monday through Thursday from 2:15 pm to 3:15 pm. Let's Move workshops follow the participants "Familia Meetings" and are meant to be an outlet for stress relief as well as fun. Past activities have included capoiera, zumba, salsa, yoga, nature walks, wiffle ball, hip hop, step and more.
Project Course: Interactive courses infusing social justice education through completion of a week-long project; project course instructors will introduce an aspect of social justice education or teach about a cause important to them and the community through a creative means. Project courses meet from 3:30 pm to 5:45 pm each day Monday through Thursday. Last year's project courses can be reviewed here:
