Mapping British Women Artists' Creative Spaces 1750-1950 - Database Access Form
Please complete this form if you wish to be granted access to contribute to the Mapping British Women Artists' Creative Spaces 1750-1950 Database. Once you have completed this form you will be sent a password which will enable your access to the database. Before completing the form please read the below Data Contribution Statement:

The intention of this project is:

to collate disparate publicly available and research data relating to the location and form/use of creative spaces utilised by British women artists active in the period 1750-1950 and network connections between the same women in that period;
to make the research data openly and freely available online for non-commercial use by researchers;
to enable filtering/sorting and other customisation of the data set to make it specific to research questions being interrogated by individual researchers.

By contributing research data to this project authors agree to:

not to share their password or access to the database with others

in the case of:

Individual free text entries relating to the Form/Use of Creative Spaces and Relationships between artists

to be credited as an author or contributor within the CMS Database and resulting map output:
The project co-leads believe that all contributors of entries should be acknowledged through an author credit line, which users must cite if they wish to reference and/or quote your work. The Creative Commons License CC By NC ND 4.0 International will be cited for individual entries authored in the free text field of the Creative Space- Form/Use and Relationships forms. (N.B.: All CC licenses are all non-exclusive and royalty-free, unrestricted in terms of territory and duration and therefore irrevocable. All CC licenses include the clause that authors must be cited (By). This license also includes NC (non-commercial) and ND (no derivatives).)

The first person to author an individual entry (i.e. the person who creates the entry) will be credited as the ‘Lead Author’; this means their name will always appear first in the credit line. Any subsequent persons who add to an existing entry will be listed as ‘Contributing Authors’; this means their names will be listed after the Lead Author in the order in which they contributed.

For example:

An entry with one author: [Lead Author Name], ‘[Artist Name] ([dob-dod]) at [Creative Space Location, shown as building name/m=no and street name] from [started date-ceased date], Mapping British Women Artists 1750-1950, [creation date].

An entry with more than one author: [Lead Author Name] with [Contributing Author Name 1] and [Contributing Author Name 2], ‘[Artist Name] ([dob-dod]) at [Creative Space Location, shown as building name/no and street name] from [started date-ceased date], Mapping British Women Artists 1750-1950, [creation date], [last modified].

‘Moderators’, persons who will edit, fact check and approve individual entries, will not be credited as authors of individual entries; unless they are the creator of the entry. Instead, they will be noted as ‘Editors’ on a main page of the project website/map output and in the CMS Database.

to only enter your own original research and/or properly cited information from other sources into free text fields

N.B.: In addition to the Creative Commons License applied to individual entries under Form/Use of Creative Space and Details of Relationship, the length of those entries is limited to 300 words. This is intended to leave scope for the author of an entry to publish a longer piece on the topic elsewhere (any such publication, existing or arising, can be added to an entry at any time as a ‘Source’).

Other Data Contributed
to only enter your own original research data and/or properly cited information from publicly available sources

Other Data Contributed = All other data, or research data, entered by authors, into the Artist, Creative Space- Location, Creative Space- Form/Use, Relationships, Media and Source data forms, which will form the collective project output. This will be the data that can be searched, filtered and analysed in a plethora of ways by users (individual researchers). The Creative Commons License CC By NC SA will therefore be cited for the collective data set.  This license includes NC (non-commercial) and SA (Share Alike).) It will ensure that users cannot use the data for profit and must share their work on the same open basis as this project.

For more information about Creative Commons Licenses please see: https://creativecommons.org/

Much of the Other Research Data contributed may be facts and already in the public domain as opposed to original research. Nevertheless, contributors are asked to properly cite ‘Sources’ of information entered in order to evidence the entry and facilitate fact checking by ‘Moderators’.

Intellectual Property - Project data is held and its legacy ensured for free future access and use by the University of York. Outputs of the project may be shared by the British Art Network (BAN) through its channels and, by extension, shared by BAN’s supporting organisations Tate and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art via their channels.
