The most common method of describing psychological performance test scores is by the use of qualitative descriptors such as "average", "above average", "superior" and "impaired", which are generally considered to be more meaningful and understandable than raw scores, standard scores, percentile ranks, etc. However, these labels have been used inconsistently by psychology professionals, creating confusion for patients, medical doctors, attorneys, students and even other psychology professionals. To reduce this confusion, a consensus statement of agreed-upon labels was recently published. Psychology professionals who consider themselves to have competence at an international level would be wise to take heed of their recommendations and incorporate them into their reports and feedback strategies.
To successfully complete this Neuropsychology SA Mini Course, participants are required to read the article, "American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology consensus
conference statement on uniform labeling of performance
test scores" by Guilmette et al. (2020), answer the multiple choice questions based on the article with at least 80% correct, and submit their answers by no later than 30 November 2025.
