Title: Overview of a Trauma Informed Campus and Classroom
Date: Thursday, January 7, 12:00 - 2:00pm

Join us for an exciting plenary talk co-sponsored by Radford University's Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning and VCU's Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are significant childhood traumas that result in actual changes in brain development. Other traumas like Adverse Community Environments, Adverse Cultural Exposures, and Adverse Circuitry Expressions are also responsible for changes in how we experience our world. Many of our students struggle with the impact of these traumas and it often shows up on our campuses as academic struggles or classroom behavior concerns. Resilience is building strategies that help us each adapt to the challenges we face, to build a stronger toolkit of responses. Research has shown that building resilience can help a person overcome these traumas.  We will explore some key ideas in this work and discuss opportunities for a full 6-hour course that leads to certification as a Trauma Informed Individual.
