Sept 2023 Maryhill Crew Application
Request to join Maryhill crew.  Please be prompt and communicative.  I can deal with changes of plans easily, I can't deal with no-shows as easily.

Our insurance asks us to inform the crew that we may have to submit names for background checks as we have minors come to our events.  Unless your background could inspire an episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit there's no cause for concern.

Job Descriptions and Crew Notes
The makeup of the event crew can really be the difference between a smooth event and a disorganized one.  Contributing time and energy to helping these things happen is a rewarding experience and gives you a unique point of view into what goes on behind the scenes.  We make an enormous effort to ensure the work requested of you is a fair trade for what we give you in return.  Reliability, consistency, and eagerness to step up are all great traits to bring to the table. We will be handling communication through email.

Expectations: You will be working ~1/3 of the event across 2 four hour shifts and you will make it to the morning crew meeting on the days you work.  We will not be doing 8 hour shifts for corner workers as we find that sitting out in the open that long is too taxing on people.

RIDE OR DIE CREW - This crew isn't assigned any specific tasks and is instead meant to fill in for the unexpected things that arise.  This COULD be to help cover something catastrophic (we had trucks break down and need to get new ones in town), but is a lot of small things and filling gaps.  It's helping get people parked in the morning, helping fill in if someone needs a break, or getting people food, or if a worker isn't responding to a radio check you'll skate down solo to check up on them.  We'll also have you come to the morning crew meetings to check in if we have any unexpected openings.  This crew should be present to help with setup and takedown.

Hay Crew - Responsible for setup and cleanup.  You are expected to be at the hill the day before the event ***Friday the 1st*** so we can start setup by 10am and to stay after the event until we are done cleaning, which could be as late as ***9pm on Monday the 4th of September***.  Must be able to lift 60 lbs repeatedly.  Bring a great attitude, long sleeve shirt you don't care about, and a good work ethic.
***FRIDAY BEFORE EVENT AND MONDAY EVENING AFTER EVENT***

Corner watcher - The backbone of the rider safety crew.  You will be positioned in a corner with a radio and a flag to be eyes and ears as well as a first responder.  You will be responsible for helping shut down the course in case of a red flag.  You'll need to be at the crew meeting the morning of your shift(s) at 8am so we can get you up on the course and start runs by 9am.

Race Crew - The Sept 23 event will include formal racing comprised of a qualifying session on Saturday evening and elimination brackets on Sunday.  We will be looking for a number of additional people to help marshal spectators and monitor racing.

Top/Bottom hill course crew - These positions work either end of the course.  You will be interfacing directly with riders.  Hilltop will be helping hold riders until the course is clear, enforce a safe drop order when the course is open (slow vehicles last), and then hold riders again in the case of a red flag.  Bottom course crew will help keep the shutdown area clear, help get trucks loaded and ensure rules are followed, and work the shutdown gates.

Registration and Site crew - This position helps setup and take-down of all our tents, any campground infrastructure we have, changes trashes, refill water coolers, etc.

Shuttle Truck driver - This position will have you driving one of our 26 foot box trucks up and down the hill.  Must have driver's license and be comfortable driving a large vehicle safely and smoothly.  We will need drivers during setup on Friday as well as after hours on Sunday during cleanup.

Shuttle truck fetcher/returner - We need a set of people to help get the trucks at the start of the event and return them at the end.  We usually get them in The Dalles, OR and we need people who are carpooling with others going that way to help us get them to and from the event.  ***THIS IS NOT A FULL SPOT AND WILL BE PAIRED WITH OTHER WORK***  Hay crew members are ideal for this as we can't return the trucks til the end of hay cleanup.
