About the Farm
Heart & Sol Farm is a source of naturally grown seasonal vegetables.
Fresh food grown locally using natural and ecologically responsible methods.
The Farm Fresh Food Share
The Farm Fresh Food Share from Heart & Sol Farm is a form of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA.)  Community Supported Agriculture is a way for community members to support local farmers and food by investing in the farm and the farmer at the beginning of the season.

In return for your investment you will receive 16 boxes of food harvested fresh from the farm.
The Farm Fresh Food Share boxes will be available for pick-up every Sunday from June 26- October 9.
The pickup location will be at the Midland Farmers Market (526 Bay Street, Midland) from 9:00am - 12:00pm.
If you do not call or arrive for your pick up, your food will be donated to an organization or individual in need.

Shares in the 2022 season will be limited to 30.
Join early and support your local farmer and receive fresh food all season.

Growing Practices
Ecological principles and sustainable practices are what guide farm operations.  Although Heart & Sol Farm is not currently certified as organic, organic practices are followed in order to keep the soil, the food, and our community healthy.  There are absolutely NO chemical pesticides or GMO's (genetically modified organisms) used in the production of your food.

Heart & Sol Farm's active commitment to ecological sustainability and social responsibility:

- Uses organic seed and soil enriched with natural and ecologically sustainable fertilizers, maximizing both the nutritional value of what you are eating and keeping the soil healthy for future generations.

- Purchases from local seed producers and other suppliers as much as possible to support an economy close to home.

- Compostable packaging materials and produce bags are used in order to limit plastic pollution in landfills, oceans, and the natural environment in general.
This is an example of a mid-season large share from the 2020 season.  The share displayed included: Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Basil, Kale, Summer Squash, Eggplant, Heirloom Slicing Tomatoes, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Carrots, Kohlrabi, Red Onion, a Cucumber, Green Beans, and a bag of washed and ready-to-eat Leaf Lettuce.
Share in the Reward and the Risk
I promise to do my best to provide you with a bountiful share of food each week. However, the quantity of vegetables and herbs may vary from week to week. Variations in quantity and variety may be impacted by any number of factors including: extreme weather events, severe insect infestations, or other production factors.  Buying a share in the farm means that you are agreeing to share the risk of crop failure with me and other members. It also means you will share in the reward with an abundant harvest by receiving additional items from time to time.

In the unlikely event of a crop failure, the procedure is as follows:

If only a small portion of crops fail, I compensate for the failed crops by filling your share with other crops grown on the farm that are ready for harvest at that time.

If a large portion of crops fail, I may not be able to deliver any product in a given week - this is a highly unlikely scenario.

To make up for any short falls in difficult weeks or for thin harvests that may take place during earlier weeks in the season, every effort will be made to exceed the weekly dollar amount in subsequent weeks to make sure you get the full value of your share over the course of the season.

In addition to the Farm Fresh Food Share, the farm sells at farmer's markets and to a few local restaurants and stores.  Members of the Farm Fresh Food Share receive priority when it comes to the weekly harvest.  Farm Fresh Food Shares are filled first, and the remainder will be sold at the market or to other customers.  Any surplus, beyond addressing the needs of the members and other markets, will be made available to local charities for immediate use and/or consumption. The idea is to have zero waste from any given harvest.
