Facts for Parents
REFUGES (Refugees Exploring the Foundation of Undergraduate Education in Science) Afterschool Program, operated by the University of Utah’s Center for Science and Mathematics Education in collaboration with the Utah State Board of Education, Department of Workforce Services, and the Sudanese Community in Utah (SCUT), is offered for all students in grades 7-12. The program operates in the Summer Monday – Thursday, 10:00am – 3:00pm, and during Fall/Spring Monday - Thursday 3:00pm – 6:30pm. Programming will take place at the University of Utah Crocker Science Center Basement Room 013 and Room 010-012. The program will run from June 20, 2023 through May 30, 2024.

SUMMER
MONDAY - THURSDAY (10:00am - 3:00pm)
Students will be transported daily by provided REFUGES transportation from their homes to the University of Utah to participate in a variety of enrichment courses. Students are also dropped off at home once program ends.

Activities include: Academic Tutoring, Credit/GPA Recovery, Computer Science Classes, LEGO Robotics, Prevention Programming, Dance, and more!
FALL/SPRING
MONDAY (1:00pm – 2:00pm)
Online through Zoom, students will meet weekly with Jojo, a college advisor who is dedicated to supporting our students with their academic success. Students in this program have been awarded full-ride scholarships and have been admitted to some of the top schools in the nation. This is for every student in 11th and 12th grade that wishes to go to college.

TUESDAY - THURSDAY (3:00pm - 6:30pm)
Students will be transported daily by provided REFUGES transportation from their schools to the University of Utah to participate in a variety of enrichment courses. Students are also dropped off at home once program ends.
