CIG Teachers Conference 2023
Ottawa, April 5-8th, 2023

The Canadian Improv Games Teacher’s Conference (CIGTC) is a Professional Development opportunity for teachers from across Canada presented each spring by the Canadian Improv Games, a charitable organization providing theatre curriculum to high schools and secondary schools since 1977.

Delegates attending the CIGTC can expect to receive over 15 hours of Professional Development over 4 days in Ottawa through attending workshops and performances.  Teachers will have the opportunity to watch games and activities be introduced to students as well as participate with their peers using games and activities to strengthen their teaching practice.

This exciting and hands-on conference will give drama and english language arts teachers lots of games, activities and strategies for improving student’s speaking and listening skills as well as help get teachers comfortable introducing improvisational theatre into their professional practice.  Teachers can expect to work with veteran improvisors, coaches and theatrical performers to learn how to bring improv into their classroom.   Improvisational theatre is a great cross-curricular teaching methodology in all subjects that engages students and activates their learning in meaningful ways.

Workshops and events will take place at the University of Ottawa, Les Hotel & Suites (our host hotel located on Ottawa U campus) as well as the National Arts Centre. The cost of registration is $299+HST.  Teacher’s attending the conference with students registered in the National Festival will recieve a 50% discount.

*If your team is representing your regional tournament as a competitive team, ONE teacher or coach may register for the Teachers Conference for free.

Our hotel partner, Les Hotel & Suites, is able to offer you a room rate of $169/ night (for a single room with full kitchen).  However, you are also welcome book at another hotel if you are able to find a better rate!  We can also connect teacher’s who are interested in sharing a room at Les Hotel & Suites to reduce costs.

CIGTC takes place in conjunction with the Canadian Improv Games National Festival and Tournament, a national theatre event that welcomes over 300 students and teachers to Ottawa each year for workshops and performance opportunities at the University of Ottawa and the National Arts Centre.  The Canadian Improv Games strives to create meaningful learning opportunities for both students and teachers interested in drama, and specifically improvisational theatre.  Local programs are available in major cities across Canada each year and top performing teams from each school then advance to the National event in Ottawa, the National Tournament.
