LPA Advocacy Program Mentor Interest Form
What do you wish you had known before going into college?

What if you could help provide that guidance to the next generation?

LPA's Advocacy Committee has created this mentorship program to equip current college/university students in the dwarfism community with the resources necessary to navigate their post-secondary institution, by connecting them with a little person who has graduated college and who can provide advice to set the mentee up for continued college success.

If you are interested in having this impact, please fill out the form below. Let’s carve a path and make it easier for every member of this population to attend their first year of university!

For any questions, please reach out to advocacy@lpaonline.org

Why do you want to be a mentor? *

The program will be for 8 months (December 2023 - July 2024). For some modules, we will be bringing in a guest speaker for a 1-hour presentation + Q&A session on that month's topic. We expect that the mentor and mentee will meet for at least 1 additional hour to discuss that month's topic one-on-one. A breakdown of the program is as follows:

Module 1, December: Getting a Mentor

- We will be holding a virtual matchmaking event to pair you to your mentee

- Mentor and mentee will figure out a meeting cadence for each month

- We will be providing some fun icebreaker questions you can use to get to know one another better!

Module 2, January: Resolution-Essay Workshop

- What are your mentee's goals? What do they want to accomplish in this program, in college, and in their career?

- We're going to do some fun brainstorming activities to help our mentees set long-term goals and stick to them, with your help!

Module 3, February: Applying to Scholarships

- We will have a guest speaker present on best practices in applying to college scholarships

- Optional: set up an additional one-on-one meeting between you and your mentee to discuss a topic of their choice (about scholarships or something else)

Module 4, March: Learning LinkedIn

- We will show everyone how to set up a LinkedIn profile by highlighting accomplishments and expanding on resumes

- We will be bringing in a guest speaker to present on best practices, and you will work with your mentee to help them create an AMAZING profile

Module 5, April: A Realistic Perspective on College

- We will be hosting a panel of recent college graduates to answer mentee questions and provide perspective about what college is like (i.e. joining extracurricular activities, Accessibility and Disability Services, safety on campus, mental health resources, organizing your schedule ahead of time).

- Optional: set up an additional one-on-one meeting between you and your mentee to discuss a topic of their choice

Module 6, May: Exploring Majors

- We will be bringing in a guest speaker to introduce personality assessments so mentees can explore their career interests!

- Mentees will complete the personality assessment before the module group meeting and you will discuss their results with them one-on-one

Module 7, June: Networking

- We'll teach everyone some best practices to build a network and find professionals in industries of interest, both virtually and in-person

Module 8, July: Meeting your Mentor/Mentee

- We will be hosting an optional networking event at the 2024 National Conference in Baltimore, MD for mentors and mentees to meet one another in person

- This is also an opportunity for the next cohort to learn about the mentorship program for the following year. We would love it if you would be open to discussing your experience!

Knowing what our expectations are, what does your time commitment look like (per month) for this program?
