THIS APPLICATION HAS OFFICIALLY BECOME A WAITLIST. ALL STUDENTS APPLYING FOR SUMMER SCHOOL ATER 4PM ON APRIL 22, 2024 WILL NOW BE PLACED ON A WAITLIST. YOU ARE NOT GUARANTEED ENROLLMENT IN SUMMER SCHOOL. YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED IN MAY IF YOU ARE ENROLLED IN SUMMER SCHOOL
All Sheldon High School Summer Learning classes will be held in-person only at Sheldon High School and all students will be expected to attend daily to work on their courses. Physical daily attendance is required to remain enrolled in the Summer Learning Program. All school rules apply during summer: any student who receives a referral that will result in a home suspension will be automatically dropped from summer learning with no credit or grade given.
Students may take up to two classes maximum (5 credits per class for a total maximum of 10 credits attempted) from 8 AM - 12:30 PM. Lunch will be offered 12:30-1:00. Summer learning programs will operate June 3-July 16. Students will work at their own pace and may stop attending once they have completed their coursework. Please note, summer programs will be closed June 19th in observance of Juneteenth and July 4th in observance of Independence Day.
Most summer learning classes are offered for credit recovery/grade improvement only (e.g., if a student received a D or F in a required academic class and needs to repeat it).
Due to the academic goal and pace of summer school, R3 (restorative room), detention, and in-house detention will not be offered as an alternative to assigned classes and classwork. Students are expected to respect other students learning, follow all school rules, and avoid violating education codes or EGUSD policy. Academic effort and success are the focus of summer school.
There are a few classes that may be offered for acceleration if a student cannot fit it in their schedule due to involvement in multiple specialized programs (e.g., AVID, Band, Vocal, Theatre, etc.). Those classes for acceleration are Health, Computer Technology, World Geography, and PE Course II (PE II is only available for 10 credits and will require attendance for the full duration of the program). These students are not guaranteed enrollment, but can apply.
Completing this form does not guarantee that you will get the classes you requested, but this is the first step to be considered to take a summer learning class. Applications must be submitted by April 22, 2024 at 4:00 pm. Thank you!
