Committee involvement will begin in May 2023 and continue until May 2024.
Position availability is indicated under each committee name.

GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
(3 available positions, 3 individuals total)

**1-year position of approximately 2-3 hour time commitment monthly  

1. Monitor state and national policy actions to ensure that VATA‘s interests and objectives are adequately represented at all levels of government

2. Support and advocate for legislation and policies that promote the profession and practice of art therapy

3. Create a monthly report to share at the board meeting - updating board of progress regarding licensure efforts, issues, advocacy events, advocacy actions, etc.

4. Research Advocacy Days that align with VATA's mission; creates task list/timeline; coordinate with Membership to recruit participants 

5. Maintain coordination with other committees as needed (Social Media; Events; Professional Development)

For volunteer participation in the G.A. committee, I nominate:

BUDGET / SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
(4 available positions, 4 individuals total)

**1-year position of approximately 2-3 hour time commitment monthly

1. Promote scholarship opportunities and ensure equal opportunity access to scholarship applications for all members.

2. Facilitate the application review process annually for scholarships, confirm the membership status of applicants, and complete the review process to make recommendations for awarding scholarships.

3. Monitor and enforce conditions in scholarships for presentations to the VATA and/or AATA membership before funds are disbursed to the recipient.   

4. Responsible for possible fundraising opportunities.

5. Review and approve, if appropriate, board member and committee budget requests.

6. Maintain coordination with other committees as needed (Membership; Social Media; Events)

EVENTS / ANNUAL ART SHOW COMMITTEE

**1-year position of approximately 2-3 hour time commitment monthly  

1. Organize required events to include, but not limited to: Quarterly/Bi-Annual Community Meetings, Annual Art Show, Creative Arts Therapy Week, other community involvement opportunities

2. Creates monthly report to share at board meeting - updating board of progress towards events, issues, etc. 

3. Creates task list/ timeline for each event and present to board 

5. Provide board with post- event review, number attended, what went well, what can be improved (within one week of event completion) 

6. Takes pictures/ documents each event for the website and social media

7. Maintain coordination with other committees as needed (Social Media; Professional Development)

MEMBERSHIP / ELECTIONS COMMITTEE
(2 available positions, 3 individuals total)

**1-year position of approximately 2-3 hour time commitment monthly  

1. Create and distribute annual membership survey; then compile results and report back to the board

2. Support with annual elections by creating forms, reviewing nominations, compiling bios and information for nominated and elected members

3. Assist with the annual, month-long membership drive

4. Maintain contact with regional representatives to encourage recruitment, member feedback, and involvement 

5. Maintains communication with members (under guidance of Membership Director) to include, but not limited to: new members (welcome email), current members (notification about upcoming expiration and feedback surveys), expired members (notify about expired membership and feedback surveys)

6. Maintain coordination with other committees as needed (Social Media; Professional Development; Budget/Scholarship)

For volunteer participation in the Membership committee, I nominate:

MULTICULTURAL COMMITTEE
(3 available positions, 3 individuals total)

**1-year position of approximately 2-3 hour time commitment monthly  

1. Create an environment to foster discussions and implement action steps for empowering and supporting BIPOC art therapists in VA

2. Compile resources, websites, lists of providers, etc. to serve as a reference point for BIPOC clients who might be seeking art therapy services

3. Organize CEU opportunities to strength BIPOC art therapist identity and/or workshops and professional trainings

4. Coordinate with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) to co-sponsor events, working together to provide art therapy education, awareness, and workshops

5. Consider hosting monthly BIPOC peer supervision groups and/or planning an annual community outreach event

6. Create honorary content to share about and highlight BIPOC art therapists

7. Maintain coordination with other committees as needed (Social Media; Professional Development)

For volunteer participation in the Multicultural committee, I nominate:

SOCIAL MEDIA COMMITTEE

**1-year position of approximately 2-5 hour time commitment monthly  

1. Maintains regular content on website and social media platforms (promote VATA news, events, and other relevant content)

2. Create monthly report to share at board meeting to include a social media 'calendar' outlining posts  

3. Coordinate with membership for featured/spotlighted members on social media

4. Encourage members to contribute to VATA blog on the website 

5. Respond to received inquiries on social media and website platforms (i.e. DMs on Instagram)

6. Take pictures/ document each event for the website and social media

7. Responsible for editing of content (allow for at least 2 different people to go over content)

8. Maintain coordination with other committees as needed (Events; Professional Development; Budget/Scholarship; Membership/Elections; Governmental Affairs)

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
(2 available positions, 3 individuals total)

**1-year position of approximately 2-5 hour time commitment monthly    

1. Create monthly report to share at board meeting - updating board of progress towards professional development opportunities, issues, etc. 

2. Create task list/ timeline for each professional development event and present to board 

3. Provide board with post- event review, number attended, what went well, what can be improved (within one week of event completion)  

4. Organize an annual symposium/conference with CEU opportunities and/or other training/workshop opportunities

5. Coordinate with AT Grad Schools or other institutions for co-sponsoring events, working together to provide CEUs for VATA members 

6. Create and distribute CEU certificates from professional development events and annual art show 

7. Consider hosting monthly informal peer supervision groups 

8. Maintain coordination with other committees as needed (Events; Budget/Scholarship; Membership/Elections; Governmental Affairs)
