Advanced Band - Content:  ● Top performing ensemble at KMS. ● Developed the necessary skills to play their instrument at a proficient level. ● Performs 3-4 concerts a year. ● Performs at the Band Festival in March. ● Students have the opportunity to audition for the District Honor Band and the Ft. Lewis Honor Band. ● Students have the option to participate in Solo & Ensemble in April. ● Class is open to 8th grade students (only for the 2021-2022 school year).. ● Enrollment for this class is done by director recommendation only. ● If they were already enrolled in this class as a 7th grader, they will automatically be placed in it again as an 8th grader. *

Contemporary Band (Jazz Band) - Content: Contemporary Band (Jazz Band) ● Performs 3-4 concerts a year. ● Performs at the Jazz Festival in February. ● Class is open to 7th and 8th grade students. ● The student should also be enrolled in either Adv. Band or Int. Band ● The student cannot be enrolled if they have not been in band before ○ Only exception ■ If they play piano/bass/electric guitar and they have talked to me before being enrolled ● Performs different genres of music, swing, funk, rock, and latin. *

Intermediate Band : Content : ● The 2nd Band Ensemble at KMS. ● Performs 3-4 concerts a year. ● Students have the option to participate in Solo & Ensemble. ● Class is open to 7th and 8th grade students. ● If the student has never taken a band class, they will be placed in this class as a beginner. ● If the student did not receive a recommendation to be placed in Advanced Band, and still wish to continue in band, they will be placed in this class. ○ For those not placed in Advanced Band, they will use this class to receive extra help. ● If a student has already taken a band class but wishes to learn a new instrument, they will be placed in this class. *

Art - Content - Are you an artist? Do you like to draw, paint, or create? Art is the class for you! We will explore different ways to create art in a fun and exciting way. In this fast paced class we will learn a lot and have fun doing it! *

Chorus - content: Students will learn the basics of signing, reading music, and performing. *

Computer Systems Class - Content: Students will learn about basic computer operations and work on becoming proficient with typing, creating spreadsheets, presentations, and other educational documents while using Google Suite programs. This class will prepare students for future computer use in higher education and real life applications. (7th and 8th grade)
Family and Consumer Science - Content: FACS is all about you!  In FACS you will cover human development: day to day, communication, organizational and leadership skills.  Career exploration: job seeking skills, career clusters (types of jobs in the future). Foods: Different types of foods, basic food prep. (Yes, cooking!)  Nutritional: Analyze nutrition in food, and characteristics of a healthy diet.  Textile & design: basic principle of design, basic crafts and beginning sewing projects. *

Leadership Class - Content : Students will complete activities for team building and learn to be KMS Student Leaders. Students will learn about basic leadership skills to help them in higher education and in real life applications. This class will serve as KMS Student Council with elected officials to represent KMS students. Students must be positive role models for all KMS students. (7th and 8th grade) *

Navajo I: (Dine Language for Non-Speakers) –Content:  This beginning Dine language course is for students who do not speak or understand Dine Language. It’s aimed at mastery of pronunciation, identification of sounds, vocabulary, and conversation. Students will also be taught about cultural topics. *

Navajo II: (Dine Language for Beginning Speakers) – Content:  This course is for Beginning Dine speakers. Students will learn simple Navajo conversation and master simple sentences.  They will expand their vocabulary through oral exercises complemented with cultural topics. *

Physical Education- Content: The purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and values they needs to become healthy and physically active for a lifetime.  This course addresses both health and skills related components of fitness which are critical for students success. *

Science, Technology and Engineering (STEM) Class, content: Hands on STEM research projects, class will have the formation of Science Olympiad team which will be in two competitions (Regional & State). *

Seminar enrichment - Content: Students must have previously qualified for the gifted program or be working at an advanced level.  Students will be challenged with a variety of enrichment activities. Activities will vary according to students interest.  This class is designed for motivation students with an advanced focus. *

Spanish 1 - Content :  Students will learn and apply the oral and written aspects of the Spanish language with cultural topics discussed as well. *

Woodworks- content: An introductory course for students with wood products. Students will learn basic skills in cutting, shaping and working with building materials using natural woods or other products used by instructor. *
