The research will explore themes of grief, ambiguous loss, embodiment, and the longing between the living and the departed. Ambiguous loss is a state of uncertainty in which one struggles to fully process the absence of a lost one. This type of loss arises when closure remains out of reach, when a person is physically gone, yet their memory or bodily presence lingers, creating an unresolved emotional state. Ambiguous loss can also take the form of a physical presence without psychological presence ex: (Alzheimer’s and memory loss), or a physical absence with continued emotional presence ex: (such as in cases where a person is missing, presumed dead, or lost without confirmation). In both instances, emotional or physical connections are severed despite an ongoing sense of presence.
