NYEC Covid-19 Outbreak and Response
The coronavirus outbreak is first and foremost a human tragedy of untold dimensions. It is disproportionately affecting vulnerable workers and communities. To better serve our community and members, NYEC would like to hear 1) how the outbreak is affecting workforce systems and youth-serving organizations, 2) what information you need to improve your organization's response to the pandemic, and 3) what you would like to see in governmental responses to the crisis. Examples of policy responses at the local and state level include:

•Streamlining benefits and unemployment insurance through state waivers on restrictions (e.g. New York waived waiting period for benefits, South Dakota waived requirement for workers to need to be searching for work to receive benefits, Rhode Island is trying to open UI to anyone who has earned income such as gig workers and independent contractors)
•Providing UI benefits to those who are currently in shuttered jobs, and training programs such as Job Corps
•Broadband internet support for youth who are transitioning to teleworking
•Meals for students and young people

As we learn and adapt more to this new reality, we will provide new ways to connect with colleagues. We may reach out to individuals who submit submissions to learn more and add to our federal legislative priorities.
