BOC FARM PRODUCTION TEAM MEMBER
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Black Oaks Center for Sustainable Renewable Living (BOC) is a BIPOC led, not for profit institution, (www.blackoakscenter.org),,, committed to local food system development in the state of Illinois & the region. We are based in the historic black farmily community of Pembroke Township. Since 2011, we have been doing all we can to restore the legacy of Regenerative Farming here. Over 20 parcels (60 + acres) are in que in 2023 for small farm viability projects to be implemented including vegetable melon production, fruit (berry & fruit tree) production, livestock, high tunnel production, hemp, grain and legume production. In our 100 year plan, our vision is to transform this fallow farming community to fruitful. We are looking for an experienced producer to take up this charge, be prepared to lead, teach and produce. At BOC, we are preserving culture and the planet through sustainable, regenerative practices to be held in perpetuity. We believe food is medicine and we are recruiting a strong production team to help us ensure the highest quality and quantity of the most nutrient dense harvest. Every production season, we harvest, process, package, and deliver/ship fresh vegetables, medicinal & culinary herbs to individuals, health care centers, wholesalers and specialty retail throughout the Greater Chicagoland area.
As part of our farm production team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and cultivation of the farm production during the growing season. Our production starts from the seed and continues until our high quality product is distributed.

Perennial Nursery
Annual/Tropical Medicinals Nursery
Hight Tunnel Production
Compost Production
Field Production
Agroforestry-Fruit
Rotational Grazing of Livestock
Agrivoltaics
Apiary
Compensation/Salary: Starting at $18/ph (25-40+ Hours per week)
Requirements; Ideal Candidates Should Have:
- A physically and mentally healthy mindset
- Dependable people able to endure working in varied outdoors conditions
- Enjoyment working outside in nature using your head, hands & body
- Ability to work independently and productively
- Some organic, sustainable farming experience
- Mechanical skills (preferred but not required)
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to learn and demonstrate good agricultural uphold a quality of work
Responsibilities & Duties:
Perform routine farm chores
- Ground prep, seeding, cultivating, harvesting herbs, plants, fruit trees in the fields, high tunnels and greenhouses
- Support the site monitoring on daily basis; track soil health and water quality
- Organize and maintain tools and equipment inventory
- Other duties as assigned
