Open Call for dance artists from Central, Eastern Europe and the Balkans for residencies in Dance Residency Centre Telocvičňa in Bratislava
The 2023 residency programme focuses on dance and performance artists from Central and (South)Eastern European countries, also dancers on parental leave and aims to encourage the exploration of ways of working sustainably within contemporary dance.

1. Dare & Care programme
When: July/August 2023
- Dedicated to an artist who is currently on parental leave or taking care of smaller child/children. Residency covers the accommodation for the whole family, offers a studio for work and a small fee for the artist.
- Length of the residency: 2 - 3 weeks
No thematic restrictions.
Preference is given to artists from Central and Eastern European countries but this is not a condition.
2. Residance programme
When: June, Septembre/Octobre 2023
- 2 residencies for individuals or small collectives (max 3 dancers)
- Length of residency: 2 weeks
No thematic restrictions
Preference is given to artists from Central and Eastern European countries and artistic proposals that are considering sustainability within the creation process.
Key themes for 2023 are: regional cohesion, sustainability, mapping local specificities and geopolitical contexts as well as providing support to specific vulnerable groups.
We provide:
- Spacious studio for rehearsals with basic equipment
- Accommodation in the adjacent artistic hub New Cvernovka
- Small fee
- Mentoring, consultation (if needed)
- Networking with local dance community
We don't provide:
- Travel expenses, food
What we expect from the artists selected in both programmes:
- 1 public presentation at the end of the process (sharing session / artist talk / work in progress performance)
Residencies are suitable:
- International co-production dance projects by Slovak artists
- Foreign artists and collectives or Foreing artists - parents (with child)

Telocvičňa (Slovak word for Gym) is a spacious studio with basic equipment needed for dance practice and movement. It has been both a residential space and dance community centre since 2016 managed by a Slovak union of dance practitionnners themselves (PlaST). See more www.plast.dance
It provides conditions for research and training to a large number of local artists, it hosts discussions and research projects as well as workshops for both professionals as well as the public. Occasionally, in collaboration with partners, it hosts public showings as well.
It is integrated into the larger independent cultural hub - Nova Cvernovka.
From 2021, it is part of 2 international projects: Residance programme - offering international residency program a regional Visegrad project Nature of Us aimed at connecting art and science in the field of ecology .
Residency programme in Telocvičňa is supported by Slovak Arts Council.

Rezidenčný program sa v roku 2023 zameriava na umelcov z krajín strednej a (juho)východnej Európy, v jednom z programov aj osobitne na tanečnice na rodičovskej dovolenke a chce podporiť regionálnu súdržnosť ako aj skúmanie spôsobov práce so špecifickými zraniteľnými skupinami v rámci súčasného tanca.
1. Dare & Care program počas leta v Telocvični
- Rodinná rezidencia v dĺžke 2-3 týždne (JÚL/AUGUST) pre tanečnú umelkyňu aktuálne sa starajúcu o dieťa/deti bez tematického obmedzenia
(preferované sú umelkyne z krajín Strednej a Východnej Európy)
2. Residance program - 2 dvojdýždňové rezidencie pre jednotlivca alebo menšie kolektívy (max 3 tanečníkov) z krajín Strednej a Východnej Európy.
- Termíny rezidencie: jún 2023, september/október 2023
Kľúčovými témami pre rok 2023 sú: regionálna súdržnosť, citlivosť, mapovanie lokálnych špecifík a geopolitických kontextov ako aj poskytovanie opory špecifickým zraniteľným skupinám.
V rámci oboch programov umelci získajú:
• Priestor Telocvične na skúšanie
• Ubytovanie v areáli Novej Cvernovky
• Honorár
• Mentoring (v prípade záujmu)
Pre koho je rezidencia vhodná:
• Medzinárodné koprodukčné tanečné projekty slovenských umelcov
• Zahraničných umelcov a kolektívy
• Umelcov - rodičov (aj s dieťaťom)
Čo očakávame:
• 1 verejnú prezentáciu na konci procesu (sharing session / artist talk / working progress performance)
