Evaluation criteria for scholarship awards
Primary Criteria:

Academic performance: Students must be in good academic standing at the time of application and during the study-abroad program. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and scholarships will be rescinded from students who do not earn at least a C- in the study-abroad program. Applicants receive preference for higher levels of academic performance, including GPA, independent research, exhibitions of creative work, etc.

Submitted essay: Applicants receive preference for essays that demonstrate thoughtful, knowledgeable planning and clearly explain how the program fits their academic and career goals.

Previous international travel experience: Applicants who have less international travel experience receive preference.

Year status (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior): Students with a higher year status receive preference.
•
Job, extra-curricular, and course-related experience related to the program: Applicants who demonstrate their preparation for a specific program receive preference.

Program cost: Applicants who face higher program costs receive preference.
•
Previous scholarship award: Applicants who have not been awarded a previous scholarship receive preference.

Stahman Scholarship
Preference will be given to students with a strong interest in serving in the Peace Corps after graduation.
Morris Study Abroad Scholarship
Students who demonstrate academic merit further defined as a minimum GPA of 3.0, are participating in a UMM approved study abroad program and have provided a compelling and knowledgeable case for why they are choosing their designated program and the outcome they wish to receive from the program. This scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need in that they may not otherwise be able to afford the program.
