The San Mateo County Behavioral Health Commission's (BHC) Youth Committee launched a Youth Action Board (YAB) of young people (ages 14-21) fiercely committed to healing, empowering and inspiring the mental and behavioral health of emerging generations. With the youth mental health crisis, it is essential that the voices of young people, the experiences of young people and the power of young people have a seat at decision-making tables to co-design public health solutions. Join the first cohort of young leaders all in for our collective thriving.

What are the YAB’s specific responsibilities?

* Advise on BHC, Behavioral Health & Recovery Services Children’s and Youth Services and Youth Committee programs
* Identify programmatic gaps, generate ideas and create solutions to address
* Participate in Resilience Champion speakers bureau to share perspective and experiences
* Attend two meetings per month: the monthly Youth Committee meeting the third Wednesday of the month from 4-5pm and a 1.5 hour working group meeting (2.5-3 hours)
* Be the face of the Youth Committee in the community
* Help build a growing coalition of mission-aligned partners
* Complete tasks timely
* Actively participate in at least one (1) YAB subgroup (e.g., social media, events, policy, partnerships)
* Commit to a term (first cohort six months)

The Process

Ready to apply? Great. Here is what to expect:

1. Complete this application.
2. You will be contacted no later than the first week of July on whether you are invited to the next round to interview for the YAB or to join the Resilience Champs bureau (a consortium of young people open and willing to share their experience, strength and hope at events and with peers.)
3. If you move on, you will be interviewed by a panel of Youth Committee members.
4. If selected, you will participate in a (1) hour on-boarding and receive a welcome packet.
