This exam qualifies you to act as a secondary referee. Unless said otherwise, you may assume you are answering questions as a secondary referee.
The exam contains information contained in the basic rules manual AND in referee manual Level 1 (
https://lightspeedsaber.com/reffing ). It also features numerous photos, animations, and videos. Make sure you have a secure internet connection before beginning.
The videos include sound that can be helpful or even critical to perceiving the action, so make sure you're taking the exam in a quiet place, or with headphones.
Team captains and officers pass at 85% (151/177). Referees pass at 90% (160/177). Use the manual as your guide throughout the exam. You can repeat the exam as many times as needed.

In 2020, Lightspeed Saber began transitioning toward more common language in the interest of making the sport easier to explain. Consider the following terms equivalent:
- Basic hit / first hit
- Return / counterattack
- Assault / Headshot
- Late attack / errant attack
