Corvallis Composite--Grades 6-12
The Corvallis Composite Mountain Bike Team includes students who will be in grades 6-12 in Fall of 2024 in Corvallis, Albany and Philomath. Students from public school, private school and those homeschooling are welcome. The team rides as part of the Oregon League under the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). The 2024 Season runs from July 1 through October 30.

If you are interested in coaching, sponsorship, volunteering, or getting on our mailing list please email us directly at CorvallisMTB@gmail.com.

This is a PRE-registration form. Complete one full form for each interested student rider. The number of student riders on the team will be limited by the number of volunteer coaches (we expect to accommodate 100 student riders). Completion of this form is required, but does not guarantee a spot on the team. We prioritize safety, fun and inclusion in decisions about team composition. In the event of a waitlist we consider the following factors, not necessarily in this order, when offering slots.
  • Representation of a groups historically underrepresented on the team (e.g. gender, race, school, age/grade).
  • Past participation, participation of parent/guardian as a coach/volunteer, participation of an older sibling.
  • Date of PRE-registration form completion including riders who were on the waitlist in 2023.
  • We do NOT consider rider skill and experience in this process, all skill levels are welcomed.
Team Practice and Events Info:
Riders are organized into ride groups to maximize safety and inclusion. Each ride group practices two evenings per week, high school age riders typically practice M/W (with some additional Friday rides), middle school riders practice M/W or T/TH usually 6-8pm (or 8:30p.m.). Exact days and times will be determined by the head coach to best meet the group needs and safety considerations. Practices will start and end earlier as the days get shorter. Practices are at several locations around Corvallis to take advantage of our extensive trail systems (e.g. Chepenafa Springs Park; Crescent Valley High School, Lewisburg Saddle, Benton County Fairgrounds, Oak Creek Trailhead, etc.). Coaches do their best to accommodate students in multiple sports. All practice times and locations will be listed on team calendar which can be found at: http://www.corvallismtb.org/

2024 Team RACE Weekends (Really Awesome Challenging Events!) occur across Oregon. Racing is optional, all team members are encouraged to participate in the events or come and cheer on their teammates. The Oregon league is split into 2 conferences, Corvallis will compete in the South Conference in 2024 on the dates listed below. The day before the race includes an optional afternoon pre-ride to allow students to practice the course with coaches. Additionally, there is an afternoon GRiT (Girls Riding Together) ride. Volunteers, parents and siblings can participate in the GRiT rides, but must fill out and Oregon League liability form for the season. Some races include an evening team family social event (e.g. pizza party or potluck, amateur music night, etc. depending on availability of parent volunteers). On race day warm ups begin early (around 7:30 a.m. for middle school), kids will race between 3 and 18 miles depending on the course, their age group and abilities. End of race award ceremonies take place in the afternoon. Parent volunteers are always needed on race weekends. Free camping is available at or near the venue, or the Corvallis Composite Team may organize camping at an alternate campground or facility. This social time associated with the RACE weekends is one of the best parts of being on the team. Some riders choose to stay in nearby hotels or drive early on race day. 2024 race days are scheduled for the following weekends. RACE details will be updated here as they are available here https://www.oregonmtb.org/raceseries.
  • AUG 24 - Prineville
  • SEP 8 - Madras
  • SEP 21 - Mt. Bachelor

Social activities for team members and their families occur throughout the season as volunteers are able to organize them (e.g. weekend family fun rides, GRiT rides, trail building events, Halloween costume ride, BBQs, end of season celebration, etc.). Pre-season events are listed on the website in the calendar. You do not need to be fully registered to participate in pre-season events.

If your rider has a spot on team, fees will apply.
Here is a breakdown:
  • $300 including Oregon league registration, NICA membership, insurance coverage, races and race venue camping. These fees are due through the NICA Pit Zone platform no later than July 1st, riders are not insured and therefore not eligible for practices until these fees are paid. Parents will receive an email invitation to register via Pit Zone to the email provided to Pit Zone in the past or, for new riders, the primary email provided on this form. You will need complete forms, and pay fees to complete your registration.
  • $100 Corvallis Composite local team fees ($50 for siblings and children of active coaches). This fee includes team supplies, student led activities, celebrations, and coach development. This fee will be due July 30th via Venmo, if you do not have access to Venmo, you can pay by check.
  • $48-64 (+7.50 shipping) for a team jersey required for racing. Jerseys will be the same as 2023 and students may use their jersey from previous years. Note that high school Jerseys are school specific so returning freshmen will need to purchase a new Jersey. Jersey orders occur in June. Parents will receive email instructions for ordering Team Jerseys. Note the team socks and t-shirts are provided at no additional cost. Team hoodies are available for purchase in August.
Scholarships are available.
Please let us know if you are in need of assistance to cover team fees, expenses, or logistics in order for your student to participate. We will do our best to help you access any assistance that may be available. Check all that apply.
The team will provide team socks to student riders free of charge.  Please let us know the student's SHOE Size.
The team will provide T-shirts to student riders free of charge.  Please share the student's preferred T-SHIRT SIZE (family and fans can order a t-shirt for cost at a later date)
I understand that, if my student rider is invited to the team, I will receive an email from NICA Pit Zone and that I must complete registration, paperwork and pay non-refundable fees of $300 (reduced with scholarship) through Pit Zone before my student rider is eligible to attend practice. I understand if I do not complete our Pit Zone registration in a timely manner my student rider may lose their spot on the team. The Corvallis team does not receive these funds and the money is not available for local team expenses.     *
Required
I understand that there is also a local team fee of $100 for the first rider and $50 for siblings or children of coaches and this fee will be collected by the Corvallis Composite MTB through Venmo. This fee is due July 30th and is fully refundable until September 1st, families can request assistance with this fee by indicating earlier in this form. *
Required
I understand that I must provide my student rider with a well-fitting and functioning mountain bike, helmet, and riding gloves. Eye protection and other protective gear, such as knee and elbow pads, are recommended. If you need assistance accessing a bike please indicate earlier in this form and we will reach out to you. If your family is new to mountain-biking this website has some useful articles https://mtbwithkids.com/best-mountain-bike-helmets-for-nica-riders/. Local bike shops (Corvallis Cyclery and Peak Sports) sponsor the team and can offer advice on bikes and protective gear.  *
