Stepping into the Future:  Students/Families
This is my sixth year serving as Southridge High School Principal. I am a firm believer that an educational community should periodically take a pit stop and critically look at its current workflow, mission, vision and core values.  At the same time, have a community wide conversation around what the future looks like, and evaluate how the mission, vision, and core values should play out for the next five years.

Our community has evolved drastically over the last five years, we are a totally different community than when I stepped into SRHS as principal.  We are a global-majority school today wherein September 2016 our student population was roughly 75% White or Asian and 25% other self-identified populations of students of color.  In 2016 our Free and Reduced population was roughly 15% and today it is well over 40%.  Since I have stepped into my role we have opened a new high school, welcomed a new population that historically attended BHS, added the Dual Language and IB Career Programs, and faced a Global Pandemic that is now affecting us in the third year of my six years.  I actually believe our diversity makes us stronger, and we are setting ourselves up for a strong future, but our systems may be outdated and our mission and vision don't even reference equity or our current reality.

Thus, it is important that we take stock in who we are, what we stand for, and identify where we are headed as we move into the next five years.

If this work interests you at a deeper level than survey and feedback cycles.  I am looking to identify 12 staff, 12 students, and 12 parents to work in a tight committee that will meet monthly to lead us in this work.  All staff, students, and families will have opportunities to participate in feedback cycles and focus groups.

If you are interested in serving on this important committee, please complete this form.  This committee will meet once per month, October-May.  If we are allowed to have subs in the future, I hope to pull this committee into a series of day meetings in January or February.
