At Te Kura o te Tauawa Halswell School, we encourage students in Years 5-8 to bring their own digital device to school. We aim for students to be confident, capable and responsible in their use of digital technology, embracing our school values and living our vision of learning to thrive through a digital world.

This BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) agreement is for students and their parents/caregivers. It outlines the responsibilities you both agree to before the device is brought to school. Please read carefully with your child and tick the agreement boxes as you go.

When completed, we ask that both you and your child sign this agreement by writing your full name. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher.

I agree

I will use my device in the manner outlined in our 'Years 5-8 Values Online Agreement'

I will use my device for educational purposes only. Any misuses of my device will result in it being sent home for a period of time. In the event of this situation, a teacher will contact your parents and explain why the device is to remain at home.

I will only complete tasks on my device that my teacher has agreed to.

I am responsible for leaving my device in the cabinet inside my studio during break times.

I am responsible for taking care of my device and ensuring that it is not left unattended (except when it is locked away)

I will bring my device to school fully charged.

I will not share my device with others at school.

I will use only my school account while at school (not my home one).

I understand that it is a privilege to bring my device to use at school.

All devices and headphones brought to school under the BYOD programme will be at the risk and responsibility of the owner. Te Kura o te Tauawa Halswell School's insurance policy does NOT cover loss or damage to devices brought to school.

I will keep a record of the device's serial number.

I am responsible for the device's maintenance and insurance.

I will manage applications on the device, monitoring all software and browser extensions installed and all websites to ensure that they are age appropriate for my child.

I will encourage my child to use the device responsibly.

I will contact the school if I have any concerns about cyber safety or other related issues.

I will ensure that the device is clearly named and that an adequate protective cover/bag has been provided.

Rules governing the use of any school-owned digital device will apply to student-owned devices while they are at school. This includes adherence to the Copyright Act and our Digital Technology policies on Schooldocs.
