REGISTRATION: ESPOL Conference: “Continuation or change? Germany after the Federal Elections” by Sebastian BUKOW
ZOOM conference

Speaker: Sebastian BUKOW, Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, Berlin, Germany

Date : 30 September 2021, 14:00-16:00:

Abstract: The 2021 federal election represents a fundamental change in German politics. After 16 years, the chancellorship of Angela Merkel ends. Merkel has shaped politics like hardly any other politician during her term in office. Addressing the election and its consequences, several questions will be discussed in the talk: How did the Bundestag election turn out, and how can the results be explained? What has changed in political campaigning, in voting behaviour and at party system level? What is the political future after the election – where can stability be expected, where change? Which coalitions are possible, which one is most likely, and who will actually succeed Chancellor Merkel in office?

Sebastian BUKOW is the Director of Domestic Department at Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, the Green Political Foundation in Berlin, Germany.
