Puzzlepalooza FAQ
1) What is Puzzlepalooza?
Puzzlepalooza is an annual event open to Blair Juniors and Seniors. Students are placed of teams by of about a dozen and solve puzzles of all types in a race to see what team can first complete the final metapuzzle at the end of the event. Prizes are awarded, including for the Winning Team, the First Losers, the Coveted Spirit Award, and more.

2) Prizes? What sort of prizes?
The Prizes are Huge.

3) What kind of puzzles?
The puzzles are written by The Puzzle Lords (and occasionally alumni and other professional puzzle writers) and come in all shapes, sizes, and difficulties. The Puzzle Lords strive to challenge as many parts of your brain as possible, so there can be music puzzles, logic puzzles, word puzzles, crossword puzzles, physical puzzles, construction puzzles, and puzzles without a category.

4) When is it?
It will be field trip from 8 AM until 3 PM on Thursday, May 30th, and Friday, May 31st

5) So are there forms to fill out?
Yes, besides this Google Form, there will be, in the future, a permission form for all students to fill out. Juniors will also have to get a field trip form signed by all their teachers (odd and even days, since this is a two-day event). Since this event is after the last day of classes for Seniors, Seniors do not have to fill out the teacher form.

6) Does it cost money?
Puzzlepalooza costs $25, which covers renting space at Bohrer Park, purchasing the HUGE prizes, and purchasing a Puzzlepalooza t-shirt for all participants.  Since the colors of the winner of last year's Puzzlepalooza were blue-that-is-oh-so-slightly-violet and white, the shirt will be as close to that blue as we can and white. It will have a bonus puzzle involving all the participants names on the back. Please see Puzzle Lord Ostrander if there are any issues with the cost.

7) Isn't this a Magnet thing?
No! :-) Let us emphasize: You do not need to be in the Magnet Program to participate in the revelry.  All Blair Juniors and Seniors are welcome to be part of Puzzlepalooza 13 - we just ask that you commit to participating with enthusiasm every day. While Puzzlepalooza started in 2010 as a Magnet activity, it has grown over the years to include more and more students, and the Puzzle Lords have found that when more students participate, Puzzlepalooza is better for everyone.

8) Can I have an example of a puzzle?
Sure. If you head on over to https://puzzlepalooza.mbhs.edu/, you'll see a link for each year we've run a Puzzlepalooza near the top. Each link has a retrospective of that year's Puzzlepalooza, and will include one to four puzzles from that year that you can try if you wish. Some may be easy, some are quite difficult.

9) How do I sign up?

You mysteriously wake up in an ice cave with the clothes on your back, a donut, three large ball bearings, a mirror, a 3 foot tall painted terracotta statue of Puzzle Lord Stein dressed normally, but then with a real, properly-tailored 3-foot tall sized tuxedo worn over the statue (including cufflinks, bowtie, and cummerbund, but no shoes), and nothing else. Who is your friend?
Participants of Puzzlepalooza 13 may not pick their team.  However, the Puzzle Lords have allowed participants to request one friend to be in their group.  In order for the request to be honored, both participants must mutually select each other as their friend.  If Jay Z lists Beyoncé and Beyoncé lists Jay Z, well then, Jay Z and Beyoncé will be on the same team.  However, if Jay Z lists Beyoncé and Beyoncé lists Mr. Stein, and Mr. Stein leaves this blank, no one benefits.  You are not required to have a friend in order to participate in Puzzlepalooza 13.
Is there anything else you'd like to tell the Puzzle Lords?
