You are invited to participate in an Indigenous-designed Canoe Lofting workshop with Elder and knowledge bearer, Doug Modig April 13th - April 16th and April 26th - 30th This is an opportunity to see how the lofting process for a strip canoe is practiced, to learn how to build a frame and to ask questions about canoe building and woodworking.
The Canoe Project is a community healing project for honoring Alaska's Missing and Murdered Indigenous Womxn and Girls (MMIWG). The project brings our people together in building a memorial canoe. The process of building brings us together to share knowledge, build connection, and collectively heal. In this process we honor our MMIWG in a healing way while also creating a shared journey forward. Some of the Studio hours may be filmed, media released will be available on site. Free to attend.
