CBI Chavruaction Circles: Gathering, Learning, and Acting Together
Congregation Beth Israel is expanding our Chavruaction Circles program. The purpose of this program is to gather for anti racist learning and action. Our first cohort (Cohort Aleph) has been meeting since August and we are thrilled to expand the program to the full CBI community. Please note: This program is open to Congregation Beth Israel Austin members ONLY. If you would like to inquire about becoming a member of CBI, you can visit https://www.bethisrael.org/join-us.html or be in touch with a member of our CBI clergy or staff!

The second cohort (Cohort Bet) will launch on the Sunday following MLK Shabbat (Sunday, January 17, 2021).

A “Chavura” is a small, informal group of congregation members that come together over common interests to create bonds of friendship. The mission of this group is to build a kehila kedosha (holy community) in which we learn more about racial justice together, become more connected with fellow CBI members to intentionally build anti-racist culture in our CBI and our local community, and ultimately grow as Jews and humans, so that, as Maya Angelou said, “When we know better, we do better.”

Groups receive approximately 1-2 hours of pre-meeting study assignments and meet once a month for 2 hours. Gatherings always include some form of suggested action (e.g., personal reflection, research, advocacy, joining or leading community initiatives, etc.). Cohorts run for an initial six months with opportunity to continue meeting after.

Please complete the sign-up below if you are interested in participating in this program and we will reach out to you with more details.
