Il festival di videoarte "Based in Calabria" invita artisti di qualsiasi paese di origine che attualmente vivono e lavorano in Calabria, Italia. "Based in Calabria" è un festival comunicativo non competitivo volto a trovare un terreno comune e creare connessioni. Il festival fa parte di The Wrong Biennale e le opere selezionate saranno esposte online, su The Wrong Television dal 1 novembre 2023 al 1 marzo 2024.

Non c'è un tema specifico. Non sei obbligato a presentare opere legate alla ricca storia delle Calabria o ai numerosi problemi ad essa connessi; siamo aperti a qualsiasi tipo di opera di videoarte. Ti invitiamo semplicemente a condividere la tua opera di videoarte. Calabria non è Milano, Berlino, Londra, Parigi o New York. E normalmente non è associata all'arte contemporanea. Qui non ci sono molte gallerie e le mostre d'arte contemporanea sono rare. Tuttavia, qui ci sono sia artisti nativi che quelli trasferitisi in questa regione per viverci. Quindi, guardiamoci e forse costruiremo la nostra mappa artistica insieme. Condividi la tua opera di videoarte e, se vuoi, la tua storia (confidaci perché vivi ancora qui o perché hai scelto di venire e rimanere qui).
 
"Based in Calabria" è un progetto con un tasso di accettazione molto elevato. Al pari di The Wrong Biennale, cerchiamo di essere fuori dagli standard dell'industria culturale, per cui non si richiede una laurea, neppure un CV, una lettera di presentazione, quota di partecipazione o lettere di raccomandazione ecc. Modalità di partecipazione

La partecipazione è aperta a tutti gli artisti (locali o stranieri) attualmente residenti in Calabria.

Puoi inviare fino a 3 opere per valutazione.

Il video non deve superare i venti minuti, in caso contrario avvisaci prima dell’invio.

Se il video contiene dialoghi o testi in una lingua diversa dall'italiano o dall'inglese, sei invitato a corredarli di sottotitoli in italiano o in inglese.

 
Non è previsto alcun pagamento per l’iscrizione o la partecipazione.

I video selezionati devono essere accessibili su Vimeo o YouTube (pubblici o non elencati) e disponibili per tutta la durata di The Wrong Biennale (1 novembre 2023 – 1 marzo 2024).

Non accettiamo documentario e fiction. Solo videoarte e sperimentale.

Essendo un progetto artistico non commerciale e gestito dagli artisti, non siamo in grado di offrire alcun supporto finanziario.

A proposito dei curatori

Natalia Monakhova e Andrey Slaschilin sono artisti e curatori nati a Mosca, Russia, attualmente vivono e lavorano a Scalea, Italia.

Monakhova usa pratiche artistiche come mezzi di comunicazione e gioco, affronta le questioni della qualità nell'arte, esplora il ruolo dell'arte come una delle occupazioni più inutili oggi, e il ruolo dell'artista come attore auto-sfruttante.

Slaschilin si concentra sulla comunicazione situazionale, l'interazione tra casualità e controllo nel processo artistico ed esplora anche la legittimità di giudicare l'arte come buona o cattiva.

Insieme curano The International Bad Video Art Festival dal 2017. Il festival di videoarte "Based in Calabria" è il loro secondo progetto curatoriale comunicativo legato alla videoarte. La prima edizione del festival fa parte di The Wrong Biennale.

Based in Calabria Open Call

The video art festival "Based in Calabria" is looking for artists from any country of origin currently living and working in Calabria, Italy. It is a non-competitive communicative project aimed at finding a common ground and building connections. The project is part of The Wrong Biennale, and selected works will be exhibited online, on The Wrong Television from November 1, 2023 to March 1, 2024.

There is no specific theme. We are not urging you to submit works related to Calabria's rich history or numerous issues this region faces, although we are open to any kind of video art works. We simply invite you to share your video art. Calabria is not Milan, Berlin, London, Paris, or New York. And it is normally not associated with contemporary art. There are not many galleries here, and contemporary art exhibitions don't open every evening. But there are artists who were born here and are still living here, as well as artists who for some reason have chosen this region for living. So let's go local. Let's look at each other, and probably build our own art map. Share your video art work, and if you like, your story (why are you still living here, or why you've chosen to come and stay here).

"Based in Calabria" is a project with a very high acceptance ratio, which like the Wrong Biennale tries to be out of cultural industry standards like a college degree, CV, cover letter, application fee, letters of recommendation etc. Just follow the guidelines, and if you have any doubts, please feel free to mail us: basedincalabria@gmail.com

Terms and conditions

Open to all artists (locals or foreigners) currently residing in Calabria.

You may submit up to 3 works for consideration.

Please choose for submission videos that are no longer than 20 min (if your video is longer but you still want to submit it, please mail us).

If your video has dialogues or texts in a language other than Italian or English, please provide Italian or English subtitles.

There is no submission fee.

The selected videos must be accessible on Vimeo or Youtube (public or unlisted) for the entire duration of The Wrong Biennale (November 1st, 2023 – March 1st, 2024).

We don't accept documentary and fiction. Only video art and experimental.

As a non-commercial artist-run project, we are not able to offer any financial support.

About the curators

Natalia Monakhova and Andrey Slaschilin are artists and curators born in Moscow, Russia currently living and working in Scalea, Italy.

Monakhova uses art practices as means for communication and play, addresses the issues of quality in art, explores the role of art as one of the most useless occupations today, and the role of the artist as a self-exploiting actor.

Slaschilin focuses on situational communication, the interplay between chance and control in the artistic process, and also explores the legitimacy of judging art as good or bad.

Together they have been curating the International Bad Video Art Festival since 2017. The video art festival "Based in Calabria" is their second communicative curatorial project related to video art. The first edition of the festival is part of The Wrong Biennale.
