First-Year Fusion Application                             & Contact Information
FYF PROGRAM: The First Year Fusion program is a great way to make a successful transition to college life at UMF. Each session fuses a 6-day hands-on experiential learning trip with a half-semester First Year Seminar taught by the same faculty member. Fusion courses wrap up in Week 8 of the Fall Semester, giving you more time to focus on your other courses during the second half of your first semester.

SESSION DATES: The program kicks off with a faculty-led educational experience in August. There are two Fusion Week session options:

August 16-22: HON101 The Good Life

August 23-29: FYS100 Sustainability Solutions

Session 1 allows Fall athletes to participate prior to their pre-season training, though it is also open to any Honors students interested in the specific themes offered that week or who prefer this time slot. At the conclusion of  Session 1 on August 22, students may leave or remain on campus until Orientation begins on Friday, August 30. Session 2 concludes right before orientation begins.

COST & FINANCIAL AID: The FYF program is subsidized under the Research Learning Experiences (RLE) program funded by the Alfond Foundation, but there is a small course fee of $100 to support travel and Fusion Week activities. Tuition and the course fee are eligible for Fall Financial Aid because this class is part of your fall semester schedule. Some scholarship assistance is available. Please direct any related financial aid inquiries to the Office of Admissions at 207-778-7050.

MEDICAL AND EMERGENCY CONTACT INFO: To save you filling out another form down the road, we are including questions tied to medical and emergency contact information. The only people who have access to this information will be the UMF Director of Experiential & Global Education, the RLE Coordinator, the faculty teaching your section, and medical personnel in the case of an emergency.
