Training Requirements: All interns begin by completing SASS’s 40 hour core advocacy training. This is a hybrid in-person and online program and can take up to 3-4 weeks, and it is followed by a shadowing stage. During shadowing, interns first listen to crisis line calls and then be shadowed while taking calls. While they are being shadowed, they receive feedback and support and then, when ready, they advance to taking calls on their own. Once fully trained on the crisis line, interns are offered the chance to be trained on emergency medical response advocacy and in-person advocacy services, which follows the same shadowing process. This training period can take a while as shadowing opportunities depend on survivor engagement with crisis line and other services.
Due to the length of our training process, we are unable to accommodate internships that are less than one school year. You do not have to be enrolled in an internship class or be receiving credit for your service.
Supervision: One-on-one supervision and group consultation in the form of debriefing advocacy related interactions.
