Parenting is one of the most consuming tasks in a lifetime, yet parents do it with love, joy, and a sense of fulfillment. Becoming parents and being the parents we want to be requires much time and effort. In taking care of our children, we may forget to take care of ourselves, which could affect us tremendously, and result, paradoxically, in significant interference to our parenting. The Mindful Parenting Workshop is based on an evidence-based intervention developed for parents to learn and practice the application of mindfulness skills to themselves and to their parenting experience. The intervention was reported to reduce behavioral and emotional challenges for both parents and children, decrease parenting stress, parental avoidance and parental reactivity to stress, and improve parenting and co-parenting satisfaction. The 8 sessions (1hr each) will include psycho-education about different aspects of mindful parenting, group discussions, and real-time practice of mindfulness. Homework assignments will be given every week to participants for optimal outcomes. In addition, there will be an additional 2 parent-child sessions that will provide an opportunity to engage in mindfulness practices together. Sessions are scheduled to start the week of March 6th and will run consecutively through the week of May 15th.
