Mindful Parenting Workshop Series
The Work Life office is pleased to host a virtual workshop for families with children ages 7 - 12 years. The workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Gili Segall, who is a licensed psychologist and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Child Study Center, Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone.

About the Workshop:
Parenting is one of the most consuming tasks in a lifetime, yet parents do it with love, joy, and a sense of fulfillment. Becoming parents and being the parents we want to be requires much time and effort. In taking care of our children, we may forget to take care of ourselves, which could affect us tremendously, and result, paradoxically, in significant interference to our parenting. The Mindful Parenting Workshop is based on an evidence-based intervention developed for parents to learn and practice the application of mindfulness skills to themselves and to their parenting experience. The intervention was reported to reduce behavioral and emotional challenges for both parents and children, decrease parenting stress, parental avoidance and parental reactivity to stress, and improve parenting and co-parenting satisfaction. The 8 sessions (1hr each) will include psycho-education about different aspects of mindful parenting, group discussions, and real-time practice of mindfulness. Homework assignments will be given every week to participants for optimal outcomes. In addition, there will be an additional 2 parent-child sessions that will provide an opportunity to engage in mindfulness practices together. Sessions are scheduled to start the week of March 6th and will run consecutively through the week of May 15th.

About the Facilitator:
Dr. Segall is part of the ASD service at the Child Study Center and has over 14 years of extensive clinical experience working with children with developmental delays and their parents, providing them with psychotherapy and neurodevelopmental evaluations. In her work she incorporates third wave cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) elements and mindfulness practice to help children and parents cope better with their life challenges.
