2023 Girls on the Run LA Board Application
Girls on the Run improves girls’ lives through a nationally recognized SEL program combined with the power of running.

GOTRLA offers an innovative, experiential program that combines physical activity with lessons that enhance social and emotional development for girls in 3rd – 8th grades. Participants meet after school, twice weekly, for 10 weeks during two seasons each year. Certified volunteer coaches facilitate our curricula, which include small-group discussions, games, and activities that address important social/emotional components, and physical education that promotes strength and endurance. The season closes with each girl participating in a noncompetitive 5k (3.1-mile) run/walk. Girls gain a tremendous sense of accomplishment by completing this event following their 10 weeks of dedicated development and training. As a result of participation, girls honor their voices, recognize their gifts, celebrate their bodies and activate their power.

Our hands-on board makes it happen.

For the last 19 years, we have built a relevant, sustainable non-profit with a significant presence throughout Los Angeles, having served over 16,000 girls. GOTRLA's Board is committed to increasing our impact over the next several years.

We are an active board, with each member committed to the strategic management of the organization. In addition to fulfilling governance responsibilities, board members lead key functions such as finance, strategic advancement, I.D.E.A. (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access) work and fund development. In partnership with our staff, we are committed to further expand our reach across LA County.

A diversity of skills, talents and experiences is key to our success.

Every year we conduct a board assessment to determine our recruiting priorities for the upcoming year. We are currently looking for the following skills:

Board Application
Please describe your connection to the Girls on the Run mission. Why are you interested in serving on this board? What do you hope to gain, and what would you like to give? *
Please tell us how you will contribute to the priority Skills, Talents, and Experiences listed at the top of this application. *
In what ways, if any, are you already involved with Girls on the Run of Los Angeles County, or have you been involved with the program through any of the councils across North America? *
On what other boards or governing bodies, if any, have you served in the past? Please indicate if you are still active, and let us know which of the organizations are nonprofits? *
Girls on the Run LA board members strive to model the values we teach the girls (see our values on our website: https://gotrla.org/Our-Organization). Please select one value and share how it is expressed in your daily life, and one area which you are focusing for improvement: *
Our board plays a leadership role in fund development by connecting with people who share a passion for our mission. Each of us makes a commitment to make a meaningful personal financial contribution, which includes a commitment to “give or get” at least $2,500 per year. (Note that the give or get amount is subject to change, pending board approval.) Please share your initial ideas of ways you could share your passion for our mission with your circles, and how those connections could support our commitment to provide the program to all girls, regardless of their ability to pay our program fee. *
Our board meets monthly, alternating between virtual meetings on the third Tuesday of the month from 6:30p to 8:00p and in-person on the third Saturday of the month from 9:00a to 11:00a. Do you foresee any issues with attending monthly meetings?  *
Given the nature of our work with children, all Board Members are asked to complete a background check during Onboarding. Please indicate if you are willing to submit a background check: *
