Rare and old books are treasures that require proper handling and storage. In this hands-on workshop, led by Sean Ferguson of the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC), we will learn how to handle and care for rare and old books to ensure their long-term preservation. The workshop includes a short overview of book materials and their history before describing best practices for handling rare and old books, including proper shelving and storage. We will also learn how to obtain accurate dimensions to build custom-made book enclosures. Finally, we will learn how best to display and support books in exhibits.

The workshop is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required.

Date: November 6, 2019, 9:00am-12:00pm EST
