Interested in being a Guest Player on the "Side Character Quest" podcast?
Side Character Quest (SCQ) is a two-person "actual play" podcast.  Potential guests are not expected to be familiar with the show.

Logistics:
Episodes are roughly 1 hour long.  We schedule 2-3 hour recording sessions in order to allow for technicalWe often play Dungeons & Dragons 5e on the show, but not always, and you will have an opportunity to request a specific game/format below.  Each episode is about 45-75 minutes long.  Recording sessions are usually 2-3 hours long to allow for technical setup, introductions, and gameplay.

Although we design the campaigns so they can be listened to on their own, they all take place in the same world.  You are not expected to already know any of the "lore" of that world before applying.  If/when you are invited on, we can answer any questions you have about the setting, and if you would like, we can provide a "show bible" that will give you any background information you might need.

Unlike in the past, we no longer have a "guest queue".  Instead, we will only send out an invitation to one prospective guest at a time, at a rate of about one guest every three months.  We understand that your answers to some of the questions below may change.

Your Name *
How would you like to be introduced? *
Feel free to include a title, pronouns, and whatever else you think is important!
Are there any specific projects or shows you will want to plug?
If any of these projects are time-sensitive, please specify below.  Also, feel free to send a 15 to 90 second audio promo after we record.
What game system would you prefer to use?
We often use D&D 5e on the show, but our game master is more than happy to run other systems, even if it means learning a new one.  Feel free to list multiple options below.
Now Let's Talk About Your Character(s) and Quest(s)
Please pitch 1-3 characters.  You won't be locked into one of these options.  Rather, it is meant to give us an idea of the sort of characters you like to play.

If you would like to know more about the setting, feel free to ask questions!  Also, a guest "show bible" can be provided prior to recording.
Please pitch a character. *
Feel free to be as vague or specific as you'd like!  Examples:  "I usually play a big-hearted mom."; "I want to play a goblin paladin who wears all wood!";  "My name is Eridin of Crow's Pass, and I have come to Keplee to find [INSERT TWO PAGES OF BACKSTORY HERE]"
Pitch another character, if you'd like.
And pitch one final character.
Is there anything you want me to know that you like to see in a Dungeon Master and/or quest?
For example:  "I don't like to have a sidekick NPC."  "I hate combat."  "I love riddles!"  "I prefer Dungeon Masters who don't do voices."  "I like quests where I get to track bounties."
Logistics!
Below are some questions to make the recording process easier.
Generally, when is the best time for you to record?  Are there any days/times that you are NOT able to meet?
Give a day of the week and time of day in EST.  I will try to work around your schedule!
What is your current recording setup? *
Please include what microphone and software you use.  Note:  Not having recording equipment/software will NOT rule you out from being invited on the show.
If an example is easily available, please provide an example of what your audio sounds like.
Feel free to include a URL or a description of where to find a relevant podcast/video/stream.  You can also email a file to us.  Email sidecharacterquest at gmail dot com, with "Audio Sample - Your Name" in the subject.
How many episodes would you like to do? *
We are currently most interested in looking for people for one-offs or short arcs.
Required
Most SCQ quests do not place the player character in mortal peril, but it is sometimes a possibility.  Do you want character death to be on the table? *
This will NOT impact whether or not you are invited on the show.  Rather, it will influence the sort of quest I take you on.
Are there any topics/activities you do not want discussed?
The show is generally "PG13" and does not include sexual content or extreme violence.  Example responses:  "I do not want alcohol mentioned."  "I do not want plots involving children in peril."
How much time do you want/need between being invited on SCQ and actually recording the first episode? *
We understand that you may not be available when we invite you on and will keep you on the list of potential guests unless you ask to be removed.
Required
Have you listened to SCQ? *
Your answer here does NOT influence whether you are invited on the show, but it will help me know what we need to tell you in advance and during the show.
Do you want/need a "session 0"?  What would you like to discuss?
A "session 0" is a meeting where we can discuss anything that you would like to know before we record/play.  We might go over character creation, world lore, recording procedure, play style, etc.
Do you have any comments/questions that have not been covered above?
Many factors go into deciding when/if we invite new guests on, including the needs for the show's story and also simple logistics (i.e., do our schedules align).  Because we usually only record with one guest every 2-4 months and we only send out one invitation at a time, it may be several months after you complete this form before you are invited on. *
We may contact you with questions prior to inviting you.  These questions might be to get a better sense of the character(s) you want to play, to clarify a piece of information you shared, etc.  Being asked follow-up questions does not guarantee that you will be invited on the show.
