2022-23 Youth Action Council Application
Pittsburgh Cares’ Youth Action Council (YAC) is a leadership development and volunteer program composed of a group of youth that are committed to creating positive social change in their schools and community. YAC members serve as youth ambassadors, acting as the voice for youth in the community and inspiring others to do the same.

Youth Benefits:
● Platform to voice matters and concerns important to young people
● Participate in processes for the betterment of Pittsburgh Cares and the community
● Personal and professional development opportunities, including recommendations for higher education and/or employment
● Opportunities to participate in trainings and workshops provided by Pittsburgh Cares and partner agencies
● Networking opportunities with other youth leaders, nonprofit professionals, and civic leaders
● Scholarship opportunity for seniors

The Youth Action Council Application Consists of two (2) parts. Both must be completed and submitted by Friday, September 30, 2022 (11:59pm EST) for each application to be considered and move to the interview process.

Prior to applying, please review the YAC member requirements listed below. More detailed information about monthly meeting schedules and YAC responsibilities will be discussed during the interview process.

All YAC members are required to:  
● be a high school student in the Southwestern PA Region (9th-12th grade)
● have a true interest in addressing community needs through volunteering 
● show evidence of creative ability and thinking outside the box
● be able to devote an average of 1.5 hours per week, approximately 6 hours per month, to YAC activities and work
● be able to attend meetings and/or volunteer events twice per month
● complete individual assignments including a service project

Youth Action Council members will plan and implement a service project which includes a minimum of 20 volunteers, and you will be provided $500 for supplies. Please brainstorm and think about a project you would like to lead and answer the following: What organization(s) would you like to partner with? Who would the service project benefit?How would you recruit volunteers? What supplies would you need? How would you promote your service project? There are no wrong answers and you are not committed to the project you describe if accepted as a Council member. *
