Candidates who would like to formally appeal an AQ Course decision after the informal procedures outlined in Step 1 and Step 2 of the OSCA/ACOSO Additional Qualifications Courses - Appeals Procedure (posted on our website under AQ Courses at
www.osca.ca) must submit this form within two weeks of the decision s/he is formally appealing.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS
This application, and any supporting documents, must be submitted within two weeks of the decision that is being formally appealed.
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
Arrangements for an appeal will proceed only upon receipt of this application and any supporting documents that the candidate wishes to submit.
GROUNDS FOR AN APPEAL
An appeal must be based on one or more of the following grounds:
• medical or compassionate circumstances
• extenuating circumstances beyond the student’s control
• bias
• inaccuracy and/or
• unfairness
Ignorance of course regulations and policies, program requirements, and policies as set out on the OSCA/ACOSO website does not constitute grounds for an appeal.
APPEAL DEADLINE
This application, and any supporting documentation, must be filed with the Ontario School Counsellors' Organization within two weeks of the date that the previous decision was issued. The deadline for filing an appeal may be
extended at the discretion of the President.
DECISION
In considering a formal appeal, the President shall review the materials submitted by the candidate and the program and may obtain such further information as the President deems relevant to
the appeal. The President shall give the candidate a reasonable opportunity to meet with her or
him and may meet with such other individuals as she or he deems necessary.
The President shall issue a written decision, with reasons, normally within four weeks
of receipt of the appeal.
