Group counseling is a helpful way to discuss issues that are concerning you and will also help you learn new skills and strategies to handle difficult situations.

The groups meet weekly for 6-8 weeks during the school day and the meeting times will rotate.

Please read through the descriptions below of the groups that we offer at Delta/Summit.  Students can only participate in one group at a time and are not able to repeat groups.
Healthy Relationships - This group will focus on ways to effectively communicate with friends, family, loved ones and teachers.  The group will discuss stress reduction activities including simple meditation as well as effective examples of communication tools to helps students resolve conflicts with others.
Healthy Coping - This group will introduce students to new ways to help calm them during times of stress and/or heightened emotions.  Each week the group will experience a new technique.
Parenting Skills for Teenage Mothers/Fathers - This group is targeted for expectant mothers/fathers as well as teens that already have children.  The group will focus on developmental stages of children as well as healthy and effective parenting strategies.
Grief/Loss - Has someone you care about, like a friend or family member, died or have they been sick for a long time?  This group is for those who would like help working through the feelings surrounding the death or long-term illness of a loved one.
Planning for the Future - This group will help students determine their academic plans once they graduate.  This group can help with determining what type of college to attend (4-year, 2-year, junior college, trade school); help determine which colleges to apply to, help completing college applications, assistance with Moraine Valley Community College enrollment, determining a future career, and more.  The group may utilize ISAC and Career Information System (CIS).
Concerned Person - Is someone you know using drugs or alcohol? Is their use negatively impacting your life? This confidential group is available to support you with this issue.
Yoga - Learn basic yoga poses, breathing practices and meditation techniques. Yoga is a great way to manage stress, increase focus, and build strength. 
Dog Therapy - This group works with dogs to help with anxiety and stress.  Students will learn techniques on how to train dogs.
Equine Therapy - This group travels to Silver Stallion Ranch to practice skills such as building positive relationships, increasing self-confidence, understanding nonverbal communication, improving emotional regulation, and demonstrating responsibility and empathy for others in order to increase independence in their role as a student and as a growing individual.  Additional needs that are addressed in the program include increasing skills in safety, judgment, and awareness of self and the external environment.
