The Art of Arabic Calligraphy Presentation & Workshop

The ageless art of Arabic calligraphy is a combination of technique, spirituality and precision. Elinor Aishah Holland, who has studied under the master calligrapher Mohamed Zakariya, will guide attendees through the history of this classical art form and its various scripts such as Thuluth and Naskh. Afterwards, students will have a chance to use reed pens to practice how to turn Arabic letters into art.

Elinor Aishah Holland is a New York-based freelance lettering artist in Latin and Arabic scripts and received her ijazah (license) in the thuluth and naskh scripts from master calligrapher Mohamed Zakariya. She teaches for the NY Society of Scribes and various museums. A resident of the Hudson Valley, her clients include the Smithsonian Institute, the NY Public Library, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Zaytuna College.

Please register here for workshop portion of the event. While the presentation is open to the public, the workshop has limited seating, students will be given priority.
