Allegheny College/SVYM Seminars: Innovations in Community Health in India
Allegheny College is pleased to offer a free seminars on Innovations in Community Health in India July 16-22, 2020.  We are inviting students and colleagues from partner schools to join us for this remote short course during this pandemic year when we cannot be in India in person.

Typically, Allegheny College students participate in a summer internship in global health and sustainable development with our community partner, SVYM (Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement), in southern India.  SVYM has received numerous awards, including Best NGO in India (2015) by Resource Alliance and the Rockefeller Foundation. Participating students enroll in a 2 credit pre-departure seminar (GHS 510: Global Health Fieldwork), head to India for an 8week, 4 credit ELO (experiential learning opportunity) where the first two weeks include seminars provided by professional health practitioners and community development leaders on a range of topics to prepare students on their specific internship topic, participate in a number of cultural tours within the region, and then engage in their internship.  Upon their return, students enroll in a 2 credit seminar GHS 515: Global Health Practice, where they synthesize their experience and integrate it into their theoretical understanding of global health.  We would like to invite partner schools to consider joining our students in future years.
