During the last lockdown we pivoted huge!

As a means to survive we took our storefront and broadcasted a weekly LIVE Facebook shopping show.  Our vendors thrived! Hitting sales better than Christmas. Some vendors seeing $500+ in sales in less than 5 minutes!! Crazy right?!?!

Cheryl, owner and founder, is a natural at sales and chatting in front of the camera.  Combine that with her love and passion for supporting handmade and we've created the perfect recipe for a local handmade selling extravaganza!  

Outside of all the fun, our FB Live Shopping Shows give us the opportunity to showcase each vendor, while connecting with the community in a unique way.

Each show is interactive and light hearted. Every table beautifully curated and overflowing with handmade products from local makers and artisans.

Vendors pay a one time payment to enter in a single show.

Oct $35 +hst
Nov/Dec $50 +hst

Commission
12% +0.30/transaction fee


----- S H O W   D A T E S -----

Thursday 8pm, once a month (typically mid month)


----- R E Q U I R E M E N T S -----

To be accepted, products must have a creative, handmade element to the process.

The finished product must be completed in Canada.

Quality is top the importance. Once we see the products in person, if we determine they do not meet our standards, a refund less processing fees will be issued and the items must be picked up promptly.

You must have a social media presence. IG and/or FB.

You to provide stock one week before show date.

All product is to be tagged with vendor # and price.

Clothing vendors must be able to provide full size runs (2-3 per size preferred).

---- INSURANCE & PERMITS ----

Food vendors must work in a Dinesafe approved kitchen, hold a current Food Handlers permit and business insurance.

Bath & body vendors are required to have business insurance and industry compliant labeling.

Teething vendors are required to have 2 million liability insurance, and use food grade silicone and products.

Application is open to Durham and neighbouring regions. If you can drive to The Hub, you can apply.

In 2014, Founder Cheryl Wilson, a maker herself, despised porch pickups. Aside from the obvious privacy and security concerns, was the glaring lack of customer service. A cold bag, alone on a porch, no smiles, no heartfelt gratitude.

A stereotypical entrepreneur, Cheryl knew there had to be a solution. An innovative idea was born - a centralized pickup service. Then the planning started. In 2017 The Maker’s Hub opened its doors. It was the first of its kind and ahead of its time.

Cheryl, brings years of retail experience from Canadian retailers; Jacob, Dynamite and Jean Machine. As well, she ran her own successful handmade business, Personally Papered, in Durham Region for 5 years. Cheryl has worked in customer service for over 25 years and takes pride in delivering a great customer experience.

Our online boutique opened in 2019 to great success and in 2020 we expanded our virtual marketplace to include our FB shopping group 'The Maker's Hub of Durham - Shopping Group'. Which now includes over 5700+ members.

In 2020, we opened our retail boutique at 1380 Hopkins St. in Whitby and won first place in the Reader's Choice Awards for 'Best Boutique', 'Best Online Boutique', and 'Best Distribution'. This was extra special for us, as it was voted on by the people of Durham. We will be working hard in 2021 to honour our status of #1.
