Special Topic Workshop

We are telling stories about family! Do you have a special connection to one of your ancestors, either one you met or only heard about from relatives? Ancestors and family members can help heal us from traumas, as well as the slings and arrows of everyday life. Maybe your family has a fun and unique tradition that has a special meaning to you. What about a recipe, or a worldview that differs from conventional wisdom? In this workshop, participants will come in with a story to tell, get help shaping it, and tell their story to a professional producer who will produce it with sound design, or gather the story themselves using tools from StoryCorps and other resources. Together we will produce a one hour radio special to air in the summer, just in time for family reunions. We will also work with a professional musician and music therapist on creating a signature sound and theme for our show.
Instructor:
Anne Hoffman-Freedman (she/they) is a Philadelphia based audio producer, documentarian and social worker.
She has produced hundreds of public radio stories. Her work is tender, thorough, honest and celebratory. She is interested in personal events that become collective - transforming an experience from solitary to connected, helping listeners to feel less alone.In 2018, Anne founded a youth radio program called Philly Audio Diaries to train young people in Philadelphia to tell their own stories. She likes to stay behind the scenes and help new producers discover what they want to create.
