The basic premise of the summer school Apex Learning online program is to assist students in acquiring high school credits. The summer school program serves as an option for some students who, for various reasons, fail to pass courses. Another purpose of the program is to provide classes for some students who are not able to take the courses during the regular school year. The students are responsible for their success in the program. There is no cost to students for the Apex program. Students will use their school-issued Chromebooks to complete their Apex summer school courses. Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to and from summer school. (NOTE: Students will be instructed to turn in their school Chromebooks when semester 2 classes are concluded for the 23-24 school year. Chromebooks will be returned to summer school participants at summer school orientation on June 13 or the first day of class on June 17.)
The Apex summer school program will run in-person in RAHS classroom 243 (with Ms. Kristin Gesteland in her classroom) and/or classroom 244 (with Mr. David Moon in Mrs. Theresa Carey's classroom) on the following dates:
Student Orientation (20-minute morning session): Thursday, June 13th
Monday - Thursday, June 17-20
Monday - Thursday, June 24-27
Monday - Wednesday, July 1-3 & Friday, July 5
Monday - Thursday, July 8-11
Summer school Apex will be held in two morning sessions:
Session 1: 8 a.m. - 10 a.m.
Session 2: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
In order to participate in the RAHS Apex Learning online program, students and parents/guardians will need to read and agree to the following requirements:
- Students are to be in class on time and expected to remain in class for the session(s) that they are registered.
- Students are expected to bring their fully-charged school Chromebooks and accessories to summer school class daily.
- Students are expected to work hard and put forth their best effort, including regular and consistent attendance.
- Students will be working on Apex only during their session. Students who are playing games or surfing the internet will be asked to leave and will be marked absent for that day.
- Acts of aggression, either verbal or physical, will result in removal from the summer school program.
- Students are to be in their designated areas of the school ONLY.
- Students are only allowed 3 absences per Apex summer program. Each tardy will also count as one absence. Once 3 absences have been accumulated, the student will be dismissed from the summer school program.
- Students will be earning a letter grade and credit for their Apex courses. The grade earned will be put on the student’s official transcript and calculated into their grade point average. The completed course will be displayed in semester one on the transcript for the upcoming school year.
- Students will only be allowed to work on one Apex course at a time. The student's summer school teacher may approve an additional course only if time and space permit.
- If a student completes his/her summer school requirements and course(s) early, the student is no longer required to attend the remaining summer school class sessions. The student should receive verification from the summer school teacher to confirm his/her completion status.
- Summer school teachers and school counseling staff will communicate with students primarily by school email. However, communication will also be shared with students and their parents/guardians on the high school website and by Skylert messages, phones and email addresses shared within this registration form. Students are expected to check their school email accounts regularly for updates and reminders regarding summer school.
School administration reserves the right to remove students from the summer program for reasons other than those stated in this contract.
