Surf’n Smile Volunteers
Register as volunteer for our Surf’n Smile event on August 5th at Beach 67, Rockaways, NY. On this day we will provide free surf classes to kids in underserved communities of New York.

We are looking for 20-30 volunteers that help with:
  • surf assistant: support our certified surf instructors running the surf sessions (2-3 assistants per surf instructor).
  • kids support: help kids stay hydrated and energized during the day
  • event realization: help building-up and cleaning-up the event

We have a morning and an afternoon session that you can volunteer for. You can also volunteer for both sessions.

Many thanks for your support,
Viola and Niels from Brooklyn Surf Club

FAQs:

  1. Do I have to be an experienced surfer to volunteer?
Everybody can volunteer, even if you have never surfed before. We have certified surf instructors that provide the surf lessons to the kids. Your role will be to ensure that the kids have a fun day, staying hydrated and energized.
  2. Would food be provided?
For the 20-30 kids that register for free surfing, there will be food, beverages and ice cream organized. We assume it will be enough to also serve all volunteers, however, please make sure that the kids have first priority.
  3. Where exactly at Beach 67 is this at?
It will be directly at Beach 67, you won't miss it. We plan to have 3 stations:
    1. Breakwater Surf containers (corner of Beach 67th St and Beach Front Rd): this is where all kids und volunteers register and where we will serve lunch and ice cream.
    2. Beach (two tents marked with a "Surf'n Smile Day" flag). This is where the surf lessons take place
    3. Beach 67 station/ Breakwater Surf Shop/ Rockaway Tiki Bar. This is where you will arrive when taking the A-train. We are working on having a volunteer after-party at the Tiki Bar.
  4. Would there be a sign?
Yes, we have big flags at our meeting stations that say "Surf'n Smile Day" like the poster below.
  5. Will volunteers get shirts to be identified as volunteers?
We got some fun "Surf'n Smile Day" hats for all volunteers that will protect you from the sun. We will chose a color that will make it easy to find each other at the beach.
  6. Can I bring my kids?
Absolutely, the more the merrier! There are many other kids around, so it will be a fun day at the beach. Please be aware that there are designated surfing and swimming beaches with life guards at Beach 67. There is no swimming allowed in the surfing area in order to prevent surfers colliding with swimmers.
