The Aafiyah Project is a wellness organization working to build a legacy of health and wellness through community engagement in the Prince George's County. We provide health-focused programming to underserved communities and scholastic achievement opportunities to minority K-12 students. Our three focal areas of operation include scholastic achievement, health promotion, and community engagement.

The scholastic arm of our programming includes the out-of-school clubs (https://www.theaafiyahproject.org/aafiyah-clubs) where we focus on topics such as career & college preparedness, campus tours to colleges & universities, conservation, social-emotional learning with K-12th grade. We have launched the bi-monthly out-of-school club meetings and are looking for program facilitators to volunteer with us for the school year (September 2022  May 2023). We are looking to fill 8 positions, two for each of the active clubs: Aafiyah Kids Club, Junior STARs; Super STARs; and Senior STARs.

CLUB FACILITATOR INTERNS

The intern or volunteer must be able to commit to in-person meetings (~ 11:30 am – 2:30 pm) on the first and third Saturdays of the month in Lanham, Maryland (Prince George’s County). 

Are you interested and able to serve as a CLUB FACILITATOR?

Our health promotion programs include #WellnessWedneday, mental health discussion forums, maternal & child health program (SisterCare Village), and other healthy lifestyle activities throughout the school year (September May). We are looking to fill 4-6 positions.

The intern or volunteer must be able to commit to occasional in-person meetings in Prince George’s County.

GENERAL HEALTH PROMOTIONS INTERNS

The intern/volunteer must be able to generate and pitch ideas, compose / creative weekly wellness messages to be posted on The Aafiyah Project’s social media platforms (i.e., Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and website), market posts to audience, and conduct research as needed Wellness messages may be tied to monthly themes (e.g., Black History, Women’s History) and/or related to current activities being conducted by The Aafiyah Project (e.g., healthy eating). Wellness ideas include mental health, physical exercise, general wellness etc. Wellness posts may also be developed into blog posts.

MENTAL HEALTH PROMOTIONS INTERNS

The intern/volunteer must be able to help: 

i) plan, lead, and implement discussion series on community-based mental health topics. 

II) organize and lead various small and large group mental health activities including: Courageous Conversations series on mental health and wellness discussions; Fall Family Fun - 3K walk for mental health (November); Mental health forum (December/January). 

iii) generate / pitch mental health blog post ideas. 

iv) Write bi-monthly mental health related blog posts (October, December, February, April).

Are you interested and able to serve as a MENTAL HEALTH PROMOTIONS intern?

MCH HEALTH PROMOTIONS INTERNS

The maternal & child health (MCH) intern/volunteer must be able to help: 

i) plan, lead, and implement discussion series with pregnant Black women on maternal and child health topics. 

II) assist the doula in organizing and leading various small and large group discussions with pregnant Black women including: Monthly series on pregnancy health and wellness discussions; Maternal and child health mini-retreat.

iii) generate / pitch maternal and child health blog post ideas.   

iv) Write bi-monthly maternal and child health related blog posts (November, January, March, May).

Are you interested and able to serve as an MCH HEALTH PROMOTIONS intern?

As an all-volunteer non-profit, The Aafiyah Project is dependent on generous donations from community members as well as grant awards. To be able to continue to serve the wider Prince George’s community, we requirement the support of volunteers to help us with major administrative tasks including fundraising and grant searches). We are looking to fill 2 positions.

ADMINISTRATIVE INTERNS

The administrative intern/volunteer must be able to: 

i) support staff and board members in the search for grants that The Aafiyah Project qualifies for. 

ii) assist staff in fundraising ideas to help raise funds for The Aafiyah Project. 

iii) participate in strategic planning meetings for the sustainability of The Aafiyah Project, Bylaws amendment, etc. 

iv) assist staff in organizational tasks such as developing and sending out donation acknowledgement.
