Expectations of Board Members –
California Hands & Voices is seeking passionate parents/professionals/consumers/community members from all over the state to volunteer to serve on our board.
Your application will be considered and you may be contacted for a 30-60 minute interview. Next steps will be discussed during the interview that will include position offers and voting by acting Board members. You will be notified in writing of your acceptance to a two-year term. We are asking for a commitment from those wishing to serve as Board members to minimally include:

California Hands & Voices is dedicated to supporting families with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a respectful and non-judgmental manner regarding language opportunities, communication tools or educational approaches. We’re a parent-driven, non-profit organization providing families with the resources, networks, and information to improve communication access and educational outcomes for their children. Our outreach activities, parent/professional collaboration, and advocacy efforts are focused on enabling children who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing to reach their highest potential.Commitment (Average 3-5 hours a month):Meetings: The board will meet face to face, teleconferencing, and/or videoconferencing at least three times a year. There will also be once a month status meeting not to exceed an hour that will be done via teleconferencing and/or videoconferencing. If absences should exceed 33%, then the Board of Directors shall consider replacement, depending on circumstances.
Your volunteer participation in at least one per year as needed. Examples include:
- Family Park Days
- Host a booth at a local event (District/SELPA events, Community Resource Fairs, etc)
- Participate in local Love & Literacy Event (Statewide) sponsored by LEAD-K Family Services
- Family outreach/Engagement Opportunities to DHH Community Stakeholders (Audiology, Education, etc)
- DHH Family camp
- Public Awareness/advertising
- Finance/Data Collection
- Grant writing/search
- Fundraising (host a restaurant or activity event)
- Participate in Hands & Voices FL3 Seminars and Learning Opportunities to share with the board
- Other skills not mentioned but willing to share, as needed.
