Friends of DuPont Forest is a volunteer service organization working to enhance the public use and enjoyment of the DuPont State Recreational Forest while protecting its natural resources.

Member of the Board of Directors
The Board will support the work of Friends of DuPont Forest and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Friends of DuPont Forest’s Executive Director (ED), the Board-ED relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.

FoDF’s Board Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term (a total of six consecutive years). After two three-year terms, FoDF board members will be asked to remain off of the board for two years before reapplying.

Board Member Responsibilities
* Leadership, Governance and Oversight
* Be aware of, and claim, potential conflicts of interest
* Know and effectively relate the mission, purpose, goals, and programs of FoDF
* Establish, enforce, and adhere to organizational policies
* Accept full fiduciary responsibility for FoDF’s financial accountability by approving FoDF’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
* Hire, support, advise, and evaluate FoDF’s Executive Director
* Maintain full confidentiality of all FoDF board meetings
* Assist the Nominating Committee chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
* Ensure a commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects our communities

Meetings, Events, and Communication
* Attend and participate in board meetings and full-day annual retreat
* Actively attend and participate in two committees
* Attend FoDF’s annual meeting, the Buck Forest Club event, and Forest Festival
* Attend FoDF events and/or volunteer workdays, as able
* Be accessible, at least by phone or e-mail, to staff and other board members as needed.

Fundraising
* Actively champion FoDF in your community
* Make a personally significant financial contribution to FoDF
* Make thank you calls to donors, as directed by the Executive Director
* Participate in fundraising activities when asked by the Executive Director
* Identify friends and associates who might be prospective donors, committee or board members
* Seek opportunities in your community to present on FoDF (civic clubs, service groups, etc.)

Friends of DuPont Responsibilities
* Friends of DuPont Forest agrees to provide each member of the board with the following
* A full orientation binder with relevant policies, procedures, and contact information for the organization
* Ample notice of all meetings
* Access to minutes of all meetings (if taken)
* All relevant information to conduct their job as a board member
* Respect for their time
* The effective use of their talents
