Apply for the Express-News Teen Team

The Express-News invites teens from San Antonio and surrounding areas to apply for our newly launched Teen Team: a group of students who will get a close-up view of what it’s like to work as a journalist.

Our 2021 pilot program will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. on every third Thursday of the month from April through September. For now, we are meeting virtually. To be eligible, applicants must be current juniors and sophomores (incoming juniors and seniors this fall). We will plan on opening up the program to more students at the start of the next school year.

In addition to filling out this application, please provide us with a letter of reference from a nonfamily member such as a teacher or employer. The letter of recommendation should describe your ability to participate in a group that requires ongoing discussion of current events at monthly meetings, your academic performance, extracurricular activities and community service. The person providing the letter of recommendation can send the letter directly to marina.riker@express-news.net. Please tell them to include the subject line, "Teen Team — Applicant Name." (For example, "Teen Team — Marina Riker")

Applications are due by March 29 at 5 p.m.
